Cars Rally - Soft Opening

Fantastic.

Loved the film and looks as though the theming is great- so much attention to detail.

Cant wait to ride it in July.

We drove most of the night sleeping for a couple of hours en route, and were first in the car park this morning at 7.30am. We spent the morning in the main park, but then went back to the car for a nap at lunchtime. Dd had to pick a famous person to do a report on over the holidays and has picked Walt Disney, so I suggested doing some research especially at the Studio Park. So when we went to the Studio park this afternoon, and I said "let's have a walk around the new part", I did not know that a soft opening of Cars was planned for today and we got a shock to see people on it. We walked up expecting to be challenged, the queue was so short that we thought it must only be certain groups of people allowed on. But no, just typical Studio park short queues (we have been on RnR twice with no real wait, it said 5 minutes but we went straight through).

We thought it was different and were not sure if we really liked it or not, so we went on Tram Tour - which the entrance to which is currently via Toon Town - and then went on it twice again. The final joint opinion was that it is a good addition to the Studio Park.

There is no real height restriction for kids, that we noticed although I would say not suitable for under 3s because you have just a lap belt to hold you in and you are thrown about with a reasonable force. It is funny because you think that you are going to crash, but the cars just miss one another.

There are 12 cars, two groups of six. Each car seats four, including upto two adults. The back seat (has a slightly padded back) would take two smallish adults or one adult and one child. The front seat is not overly comfortable, but not too squashed for one adult and child although I think that probably one adult and a teenager would not fit on it. Each person has their own lap belt.

We have never watched the Cars film and never had more than five minutes wait so could not comment on the theming of the queue.

We saw Cruster Coaster going round, but with no people on it and asked about when it was going to be opened - "4th to 8th June for annual pass holders" we were told - this does look to be more exciting, and dd enjoys her roller coasters (but we were also told that the height limit is likely to be 1.2m).

Wow lucky you being in the right place at the right time.:dance3:

Great to get the first report of the ride.

Thank you so much for sharing it with us. :cheer2:

Great report on Cars :)

Hey, maybe Tower of Terror will have a soft opening in December, I'd LOVE to be the lucky one to try it first.

Wow, that was a piece of luck, diamond57! Thanks for the great report! :goodvibes

Hope you enjoyed your weekend! :wizard:

Thanks for sharing

I'm a bit concerned about Cars being a bit violent I was hoping it would be child (3 and 4 year old ) friendly:confused3

We went on Cars again twice today. When it turns the corners it can be fast, and you could slide on the seat. There is a grab rail to hold onto and that is what we have all done each time. There were lots of children younger than our dd (who is 6) on it, and all seemed to enjoy it. I would recommend if you are not sure watching it once - you can see the whole ride from the footpath - also if there are two adults, one child sit with each adult (otherwise it could be a squash anyway for the adults.

We were surprised to see Cars running again today, it was not open yesterday. The first time we went to go on it there was a queue that would have meant we would have had to have waited about three goes, but then people started walking back through the queue to leave saying that it was stopped with "a technical difficulty". We thought we would wait a few minutes, and it restarted in less than one minute. By this time the queue had decreased so much we were the next group on after those already sitting on it!!!

This looks great, wish we were going anytime soon. Looking forward to more reports as the official opening gets near.

So am i the only person who is disappointed by this? Was expecting something much much better than a tea cups with different theming

This actually turned out better than I expected. This is exactly what the concept art looked like 2 years ago.
