Can anyone tell me about the handicap loading and unloading?
We will be traveling with my mother and she is not sure if she wants to do these rides..
Racers:
How bad is the step down into the car? At what point does she have to leave the wheelchair? When do the wheelchairs split from the line?

She is also worried about the loading time..
When at WDW we were in line for the safari ride at AK, the line for handicap was VERY slow do to there only being one truck that was handicap accessible, we waited over 2 hours to get on.. Although it was a enjoyable, this time we have two young kids in toe and that kind of wait is not possible..

Do they racers have more then one handicap car? And how are the cars different?
She is thinking she will take the younger kids to something else why we wait in The FP line....

Tires:
Can she stay in her wheelchair? If not how does she load? Wheelchair entrance?

Mater :

The queues are completely accessible. None of the rides she will stay in the chair. All need transfers. She stays in the chair right up til time to get on the ride. The lines split at the load area.

Racers, the step down is probably similar to stepping into POTC. Now, if she takes the kids elsewhere, how will they catch up to you? The queue is not easily accessible to get back, especially if she is in a wheelchair. The queue is not near the entrance. They use the same cars for both HA and regular.

Tires... No, she will go to the wheelchair loading after the line, then wait to ride. They pull a tire over, they put a ramp across for her to walk smoothly. Then they will move the tire out onto the play area.

Mater... You will veer off to the HA entrance, where you will be able to take the wheelchair right to the vehicle. It will load similar to Mr. Toads. At the end of the ride, they will bring the wheelchair to her.

Mal, if you've ridden these rides, can you tell me how much jerking (side to side) is experienced? I assume Maters is too jerky, but can't tell on the other two.

Thanks!

Racers is absolutely awesome. No jerking side to side.

Mater's is pretty jerky. I have a bad back, but it really did not bother it. As a friend said when I was looking at it "It is worth the bruises." And it was.

Luigi's was probably my least favorite. It was difficult to get it to move. It wasn't jerky.

Oh, this is good news! I have form spinal arthritis that causes the spine to fuse, so side-to-side jerking puts me at risk for a broken back. I'm hoping to ride at least one thing in Carsland, but have no interest in Luigi's. Since the tires can bump into eachother, it's not recommended.

I don't know if the car is actually different--it didn't look different--but they load it in a different area. They take it off the regular track to the handicap loading area and I think it's only one car, so it's like Space Mountain--it COULD be longer than the regular line depending on how many people are in that line compared to the regular standby.

Thank you for all the wonderful info....:thumbsup2
She was thinking of taking our younger ones to lunch at ariels grotto instead of doing cars land.....
She fears making the kids wait in line to get on, then having them wait even longer for her...
He had planned to do rider swap with our youngest however grandma is thinking maybe lunch at a grotto would be best to keep them busy..

They do not use different cars, they simply pull the car into the area for easier loading.
