Cars Land ... Do they post the Neon Ceremony Time?

I don't get the impression that Disney wants this lighting to be a big, formal deal. That's why there is no announcement or set time each day. Part of the fun for many people is being caught off guard by something cool. Hearing the "oohs" and "aaahs" rolling down Rte. 66 as the lights go on is really fun. Cars Land is not a large area, and Rte. 66 can get very congested. My guess is that Disney doesn't want to encourage people to park it (so to speak) and block the pathway for what is a very cute, cool, but short event.

Hope you enjoy it when you see it in January!

Thanks for the insight! I haven't been there yet, so my opinions have to be taken with a grain of salt. Looking forward to catching the ceremony.

We caught it twice last week. There is a DJs Dance n Drive show in the intersection at 7. Wed night the lights came on right after the show, fri night right before. Sunset online was predicted for around 7:15. So it's hard to predict.

We found if you get an outside table at Flos or Cozy Cone and just hang out you will catch it.

Did you ride RSR at night by any chance?

But by not giving good times for this, they are CAUSING that to happen, with people needing to come half an hour early and then just stand and wait. You can't go inside and buy souvenirs, because you might miss it. You don't want to get food, because you might be in the line when it starts. etc. If that is, indeed, what they wish to prevent, their logic is backwards.

IMO.

Actually, the times we've seen the lighting (5-10 times), there are many people who just don't notice. They want to shop, eat, ride rides, not wait for the lighting. It's just not on their priority list, and Disney is fine with keeping things low key. Giving a specific time leads people to camp for their spot -- think of fireworks, F!, WOC, parades. For those people who do want to see it, most just seem to hang out casually by the side of Rte. 66 and wait or they are totally surprised by the lighting and stop to watch. The whole show is over in a few minutes, then things move on. I don't think the lighting is supposed to be a big production, just a fun moment that happens each day around sunset.
Our experience with this has been very positive, especially in light of all the crowds and congestion in CL this summer.

I can't wait to see this. I am hoping to be just hangin' around and see them as they go on!! My dream would be to be eating at Flo's outside when they come on!!

Make sure to get a table closest to Rte. 66 so you can have a great view!

Yep ... finally got it .... had to confirm with the CM behind the counter in side the store. i took pics of all of them just to be sure.

Awesome!!! When we went it was so new that the CM's didn't even know for sure! LOL I'd love to see your photos :) Probably not here since others may want to find them for themselves, but I'd love to see them : )

We did, OMG it was so cool!!!!!! The waterfall looks amazing at night and the lights at Flo's are phenomenal!! I love that ride night or day but night is better IMO! :)

Get there around dark and you'll get lucky, but yes, get a table close to Rt 66 to maximize your view. :)

I read somewhere that it was! Did you do an FP or just wait in line?

Latest score:

Times trying to catch the lights turning on: 3
Times they have turned on before I am there: 3

Lights: 3
Dreams: 0

Clearly what I think is dusk and what IS dusk is NOT the same.

Next time, those lights are MINE!

- Dreams
This is what I was about to say, Disney's idea of what "dusk" is appears to be much earlier than what most consider to be dusk. We also missed it on three attempts in early August.

i hope the lights at rsr come on before sun set i really want to see the ride with those lights on but i need to be in woc spot early too or i wont get good seat like last time i miss out on seeing it (since so small)

I read now in oct it should be sun set at 630 i hope thats right and maybe it light up 10-30mins before sunset.

Does anyone know if you can the light show from any of the wine tasting terraces (or similar)?

Just ask the CM in Cars Land. They all have schedules.. and add 5 minutes. I showed up well in advance though for a bench. (See video in trip report from two weeks back in my signature)

It's really easy actually find the time...local forecast sites always have the sunset time listed. As long as you are there by that time it should be along shortly there after. Thank good ness for having smartphones.:) We loved it and definitely wAs able to pull off a surprise moment with our son. It's exactly like the movie so short n sweet but super cool.

A couple years ago we went during Christmas time at the parks - everything was decorated so beautifully. It was our last day and we had found this wonderful roving photopass photographer who took shots of us on Luigi's Tires, around RSR....in between all of that he stopped us to watch the lights come on. We had no idea that that was a thing! Slowly they came on, one by one, without any fanfare, just like in the movie! It was magical!!! The photographer seemed to know the exact moment it was gonna happen, I'm not sure how and I didn't think to ask! Doh!
