So I get my license in 10 days (yay!) and I figured I'd be driving my brother's car since he's at college and my parents haven't allowed him to take it to school with him for the past 2 years. Then yesterday my mom tells me "I don't know what you'll be driving when Andrew takes the car to school next year..." :confused3:confused3 WHEN WAS THIS DECIDED? I knew that my brother comes home in May and that we would have to share the car all summer but now I don't have a car for senior year. My mom has told me numerous times that we don't have enough money for this and that but she insists on planning Disney trips up the wazoo and buying herself a new car. And today she told me that I have to get a job by the end of the month and I've applied to three places. Now I have to get a job, look for a car, save up my money, and so much stuff.

Thanks for letting me rant.
Discuss if you wish.

Don't feel bad. I'm the oldest, and I get my license April 19. I don't have a car of my own either, and I have to get a job too. Chick Fil A' is hiring and I go to a second interview on Wednsday. I have to buy my own car. I'm in kinda the same shoes as you.

Good luck!

Getting a part-time job honestly couldn't be easier. Just have someone take you out one day (preferably on the weekdays around 1 or 2) and drive around town just stopping at every place that would suit your working tastes. Usually the managers are in at this time so lots of times he/she will schedule and interview right then and there. AND most of the time, once you interview, you got the job. :)

Because honestly, fiddling around and only putting applications online or only putting 2 or 3 out won't get you anywhere.

I was actually pretty lucky because in my family we keep cars a LONG time. We have 4 cars and I am the oldest and was the 3rd driver.
My truck we have owned since 1994, it's a 1993 Chevy Silverado & it was kind of my birthday present. However, I know quite a few people who had to work harder to get their cars.
It's good to get a part time job. I've had one for almost 2 years now and I'm only 16. so even after you do get the car you still will need money for other expenses.
Just start applying, I'm sure somewhere is bound to be hiring! =]

I got lucky in that respect. I got my mom's old car. It's 8 years old with 210,000 miles on it. A good old Subaru Outback. Couldn't ask for a better car to start in.

i got lucky too, my dad just bought a new car, a year from now i'll turn 16 and i will be mine :D but if he hadn't had to buy the car....i would have to work for it to and my mom still says i'll be "working it off" for the next year. That basically means emptying the dishwasher and babysitting three times a day...oh well small price to pay!

its ok! driving is overrated anyway... trust me.. i know ;)

.. in fact.. all the cool kids dont drive..

um...I'm 17 and still don't have my permit yet. and it's not because my mom didn't think I was ready, at least it better not have been. It was because I moved to Texas right after I turned 16 and I was in Disney ON my 16th birthday, so I couldn't get it then. and I go to boarding school in CT so I was supposed to get it that Dec. but we had to fill out a bunch of papers, so we got the papers when I came back for March break, and I was going to get the permit in the summer and start driving then. but then I had to get surgery(it wasn't critical but my mom made me get it anyway) So I couldn't get it then and then when I wan't to get it this winter she convienently lost the papers. And when we found them it was March break againand we found out we needed proof that I went to school and in order for a parent to teach you they had to have lived in the state for 3 years and we haven't even lived there for 2. So i won't get my permit until I graduate which means I can't drive to get to a job this summer, yet I'm still supposed to get one, which makes no sense to me at all. And it normally takes 6 months to get your license well I start college at the begining of August! grrrrr. sorry I kind of ranted in your rant.

I know where I live that if you get your permit after you turn 18 you only have it for 2 months instead of 6. Maybe it's the same where you live.

I had to do pretty much the same thing. My parents gave me their old car for free, but I have to pay for gas and insurance, so I had to get a job. If I didn't, I couldn't use the car. You'll get through it. And if you don't have a car for a couple months while you look for one and save up for it, that's fine too. You'll eventually get one.

Except I will be 17 when I get it because I don't turn 18 until the end of August and I will be in Florida at college at that point.
