carrying your own luggage off the ship

Is this allowed?

I'm pretty sure that I read in Barb's trip reports that if you want to carry your own luggage off the ship, just don't put it out the night before. Then you get off the ship at your convenience.

Since we're gonna be travelling light, and have a 10 hour drive ahead of us, I'd like to do this to save time.

However, one of my DH's friends recently cruised with DCL, and swears that you cannot bring your own luggage off.

Who is right?

Thanks.

The last trip report I read said you could carry your own luggage off...besides...if somebody forgot to set it out you think Mickey is going to keep your clothes? lol

You can carry your own luggage off the ship. I have seen some cruisers carry their luggage to breakfast. You can also go have breakfast then go back to your room to get your luggage.

Even if you carry off your own luggage you still must leave the ship by 9:00 am the latest.

I think that having them take your luggage is more appealing. That way you're not lugging all of that baggage into your breakfast buffet or sit down breakfast. It took us all of 1 minute to find our luggage and we were off and on our way. You have to be off the ship by 9am I think so you're really not able to take your time that much in the morning. I personally wish we could have stayed later so we didn't have to rush so much the next morning but I guess that would mean that the ship wouldn't be ready for the next cruisers until that much later.

We had a 12 hour drive after disembarking, but we got all our luggage in probably a minute and were on our way. I think you would actually spend more time trying to drag your suitcases through the line to get into the luggage room than actually the time to find your bags. You have to go through that room to get back to the parking lot....its not a case of being able to avoid the that part of the terminal. We went to the proper color area, a porter asked if we wanted help, and he literally RAN the bags right out the door to our car.

We carry our own luggage off. The breakfast on that morning is very fast, we go back to our room grab our bags and wait in the atrium for the doors to open.

Yep, it takes about a minute or two to get your luggage in the morning if you put it out the night before. Disney has a great system.

You have to be out of your cabin by 8am...off the ship by 9.
If you want to have breakfast then you have to take your luggage to breakfast with you. There is no room service that morning. Once you leave your cabin in the morning, you can not return.

I can guarantee that you are, indeed, allowed to carry off your own luggage! We have been doing this ever since our bags were inadventantly taken by someone else. They went on a multi-state adventure before they made their way home to us, and we were not allowed to fill out a report until every single person had claimed every single bag (I'm guessing that Disney thought they might show up). We didn't have a cell phone at the time, and Happy Limo was picking us up, so we were frantically thinking our driver might think we were a no-show! Thankfully, he was still there patiently waiting when we finally got out.
Now, even though hubby's paranoia has eased, we've discovered how simple it is to carry off our own bags. Granted, there are only two of us and we skip breakfast because we've already eaten enough food over the weekend to last a week. Also, we like to go to the 70s party, and since we have late dinner, we don't want to be rushed packing or to miss the party.
It's usually not too complicated picking up your bags in the terminal, but if you want to keep them with you, you are definitely allowed to do that.

They may want you off the ship by 9 am, but it doesn't always happen. We had late breakfast and line up at 8:30, but it was 9:20 before we made it off the ship. I heard from some folks at the airport that they didn't make it off until 10:15 am.
This was the 12-27-03 New Years Eve cruise.

We were also missing a bag, but Disney allowed us to fill out the lost luggage form and get us on our way. We did spend an extra half an hour looking around the terminal for the bag (which must have gotten picked up by another guest because it ended up in Indiana). We were also panicking that our towncar driver would decide we were a no show and strand us in Port Canveral (he didn't).

But the four out of five bags that were there took maybe two minutes to find, and there were plenty of porters. I overtipped the poor porter - as he ended up spending way more time with us and our four bags than he should have.

If you are indeed traveling light, I don't think it would be a huge deal - especially if you skip breakfast (luggage in the dining rooms - even just everyone's carryons - is a hassle).
