Carrying a bag onto rides

So for my upcoming trip, planning on taking a bag for the first time to carry around a DSLR. I know some rides (Indy, ToT, Soaring, etc) have little netted compartments where you can put your bag.

But IDEALLY, I'd like to just have the bag on me the whole time through the ride. I am terribly forgetful and am pretty paranoid about leaving a bag with a camera behind.

The bag I have in mind is a messenger style bag, not too big. Do you foresee any issues with me just keeping the bag around my shoulder/neck on rides? Would CMs have any issue with this on rides like Indy?

A bag that size, the only ride is Grizzly River Run at DCA, in which they provide lockers to use for free during the ride.

There should be no issue.
I've taken a bag on every attraction at DLR and with the exception of California Screamin' I have kept it cross body on my person.

I slide my cross body around my waist and hold it between my feet on every ride. That way you don't forget it and it doesn't hinder the restraints.

I always take my crossbody onto rides. I'm forgetful, too and have left a camera on Star Tours before (thankfully some wonderful person took it to the CMs and was there and waiting after the 5 minutes it took me to realize I forgot it). A small sized Disney Dooney and Bourke letter carrier sized purse is what I like to use and it fits comfortably with the seatbelt restraint over top of it.

As long as it's not too much bigger than the purse I mentioned, I don't see any reason why the CMs would have an issue with it.

I carried a small cross-body bag on every ride and did not take it off my person. I would just be careful on the water rides. I got SOAKED on splash mountain last time.

as long as your bag doesn't get in the way of the shoulder restraints, lap bars, etc. it'll be fine. i've had cast members ask me to adjust my cross body purse a couple times so the lap bar could move down more. i'm usually pretty mindful of that because i'm very petite and i always feel like i could slip right out from under the restraints, haha, so i was glad they were on it :)

I carried a backpack on every ride I went on and I did Indiana jones, Cali Screamin, space mountain etc... I kept a knee in between each strap and it worked well for me on the fast rides... but I also have long legs that usually push against the wall of the buggy.

For the most part you honestly should be fine, on the faster rides I would either hold on to it in your arms like just literally hug it the entire ride or try the knee trick.

Some rides (ToT for instance) the CMs ask that nothing be between you and the seatbelt or restraint. In that case you'd have to make sure it was outside the restrain or just loop it over a knee. I mostly just put my large crossbody bag on the floor and then loop the strap over my knee so that it's easy to pick up when the ride is over.

I've been wearing a small canvas crossbody purse for years at DLR and the Tower of Terror is the only ride in which a CM asked me to remove my purse (one time it happened). Curiously, that ride doesn't have seats with a mesh bag, like on Star Tours or Space Mountain, for storing loose items. I guess they trust riders to "hold onto" their belongings? That's a design flaw.

I wear my Dooney crossbody and keep it on during the rides, and then the body of the bag can slip between my legs so it doesn't go anywhere.

My husband always carries our DSLR bag while in the parks. One time when we rode Star Tours at WDW we got off the ride a went outside and wanted to take a picture, that was when he remember the bag :scared: Luckily we realized right away the it had left and he was able to get it back immediately. It is the only time it ever happened but it was an unpleasant couple of minutes waiting for him to come back.:)

On day trips, either my husband or myself always carry a backpack. It goes on every ride with us. It's too big to fit in the netted compartments, so it generally jut sits at our feet. It's even been on GRR, we just put a plastic trash bag over it. And as a previous poster mentioned, we just stick it in the floor between/behind our feet on CS.

On Soarin, the cast members will place your bag (if it doesn't fit in the small compartment below up the seat) in the yellow marked rectangles in-between the hang gliders.

That's interesting. The CM didn't say anything about my purse, but I had to hold it down pretty tight because it kept flying up in the air. I buckled the seatbelt and had the purse over it, so maybe that's why.

You're right, now that I think about it - they don't have anywhere for you to put your loose belongings. That doesn't make any sense.

What happened is I'm used to running the buckle through the crossbody strap, to keep it close to my body and from flying in the air (like your bag). Once the seatbelt is locked, they can't be undone and the CM caught what I did and unlocked everyone's restraints, so we all had to refasten the seatbelts and give them a tug. I held the whole ride up. *blushes*

I rode Astro Orbiter recently with my 2 girls and it was a tight fit with my bag. The CM just put it by the console. I also prefer to leave my bag on the side of Gadget's Go Coaster due to the tight fit.

At DCA - I think the Swings have receptacles. If you have a smaller crossbody they probably let you wear it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made you take it off. Jumpin Jellyfish I also leave my backpack to the side. A crossbody bag would not be an issue for that ride. On the rare occasion I ride I always use the free lockers for Grizzly River Run!
