How does the cruise line check passengers' carry on bags? I plan to carry small manicure scissors and possibly a travel iron-will this pose a problem? Thanks for your responses!!!::yes::

They use scanning machines similar to those used at the airports for security.

My MIL had small scissors in her bag once, they wanted to see them and they let her through with them.

I don't know if the iron will cause a problem , probably not.

You actually go through the security check before you enter the terminal to begin your check in.

I have read over and over on these boards not to take an iron...If there is a list of items prohibited by DCL irons are right at the top because of the fire hazard...
There are irons in the laundry rooms for use there...Take stuff to clean up a scorched iron, instead.

Hi,

Like videogal1 said, DCL do specifically ask you not to use irons in your stateroom because of the fire risk.

DCL provide irons in the laundry rooms but these rooms can get pretty busy (chose your timing carefully, I never had a problem) and sometimes the irons are scorched, so I agree take something to clean the iron with.

I did take a travel iron with me, but never used it on board, the cruise was only part of our trip and of course I needed it for the other part. I did put the iron in checked-in baggage to save any problems with the carry-on scan.

I wouldn't bring an iron..there isn't really a convenient outlet for ironing. Treat yourself..when you get to your room...your luggage arrives..pack up what is wrinkled and send it immediatley to be pressed. Pressing only is 1/2 the price of dry cleaning..very reasonable..it is all back the next day...looking great.

Why waste your time ironing while you are on vacation!

What about those little travel steam irons? I don't know what you call them, but they aren't an actual iron, they just shoot out a stream of steam at your clothing. Are those allowed?
