I have a few questions, as it's been a while since I've flown!

1. We are huge pin collectors/traders/etc... are we going to have a problem carrying 100 or so pins in our carry on? Not a fitting issue, but an issue going through security?

2. US Airways allows 1 carry on and 1 personal item. I know that, say, a purse would count as a personal item... or a laptop bag... what about a book bag?

TIA! :goodvibes

Many pin collectors/traders pack their pins in their carryon bags. Really, it's the only safe way to transport them. I would pack them so as to be able to pull them out quickly if there was any issue. But, there most likely won't be an issue.
As far as what you can take on board with you....generally speaking, a book bag (backpack) is just fine as your personal item. I ake my rolling duffle (carryon size) that goes in the overhead and my large backpack that goes underneath the seat, at my feet. As long as it fits completely underneath, and doesn't hang out, it's fine.
