I meant this post to be a reply to the thread about lost luggage. Sorry for the new post, instead of the reply.
I can't fly with only carryons either.....I just have too much stuff! But, whether I travel on my own, or with the family, I do pack basic toiletries (toothbrush, contact lense stuff), a swim suit, pajamas and a change of clothing.
When it's the five of us, I put it all in one bag, stow it in the luggage bin overhead, and forget about it. Then everyone carries a bag.
