Carry-on luggage question

Going on our first cruise to Alaska this summer.

I know you can have your hotel in Vancouver transfer your bags over the to ship for you but we are doing carry-ons for the plane and wondering if we should just carry-on to the ship as well (staying at the Fairmont and just listened to a podcast where they had a negative experience on the return leg with baggage transfers at the Fairmont).

Does that complicate customs to keep your carryon with you? Is it doable on the ship while waiting for access to our room (both have wheeled carry-on duffels).

Not at all. Your carry-on will go through a scanner though. You will keep your carry-on with you until your room is available. We had carry-ons with us last year in Vancouver...no problem.

Unlike a plane.... fluids (bevvies) ARE permitted on a cruise ship. Not surprising people transfer their carry-on content to the checked luggage and load up on water and liquor (check the latest liquor limits).
