Carry-on for a child?

We bought DD 19 months a seat on our upcoming flight to Orlando. I'm debating whether or not to check a bag with it. Then I was thinking I could just pack more in a carry-on I could store in the overhead bin....this is ok to do, right? Man, we will have her stroller, carseat, two carry-ons (at least), two suitcases.... But it will all be worth it when we walk down Mainstreet USA......

You didn't mention your airline. I'd completely use my free checked bag allowance before I'd bring more then one carryon bag, particularly if I was using DME for luggage delivery. You want (at least) one carryon bag for your family for expensive items (cameras), items you can't be without (medicine) and items you need if your luggage is delayed (bathing suit, clothing for dinner).

Southwest does not. Jet Blue does not charge for the first one.

FYI the cost to check an additional bag is significantly less then the cost for an overweight and/or oversized bag.

NW charges $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second checked bag. They charge $150 if the bag weighs between 51-70 lbs and an additional $175 if the suitcase is over sized. It's cheaper, assuming you have time, to buy a suitcase at the airport and re-pack if your bag is overweight or over sized.

Passengers who "tightly pack" large suitcases may be looking at paying a lot of extra fees. Some passengers need to "suck it up" and pay the $15 for more then one bag per family.
