Carry-on Bags

I have read a lot about packing for our cruise; however, I do have one question. How many carry-on bags are you allowed per person. We will be driving to the Port and therefore, will have all our luggage with us. I have read that you should have a carry-on bag with bathing suits, camera etc...and a garment bag with "dinner dress clothes" in the event your luggage doesn't show until after your dinner seating.

If there is no limit to bags per person, can we carry-on all our luggage and just take it directly to our stateroom. I plan on packing light (4 day cruise) since I know that my DD (age 9) will spend most of her time in her bathing suit or a sun dress. I would prefer to carry our bags and then I don't have to worry about where they are?

Thanks - these boards are GREAT!!! :earsgirl:

I believe someone recently posted about a 2 bag limit per person for carry-ons. Another thing to consider is DCL will not let you carry on anything that does not fit through the security screener at the terminal. The size limit would be equivalent to what an airline would consider carry-on size. Even if you drive, you can pull up to the curb and the porters will take your non-carryon bags and it will be easier on you instead of lugging everything onboard...remember, depending on what time you get to the terminal your rooms may not be ready and you will have to lug everything with you to lunch.

Out of 8 DCL cruises we have always had our luggage before 4:00 pm.

Thank you for the information. Given what you said, I will probably limit my carry-on bag to necessary items (bathing suits, camera) and check the clothing.

If I am really lucky, I can get the stuff into a backpack.

Ok, first off dining on the first night has no dress requirements, regardless of dining room. This is specifically because late luggage transfers from the airport can show up at the stateroom after dinner.

You could carry on all your bags except for two requirments. One, whatever you carry on must fit thru the security scanner. The small rollaways are about the size limit of what will fit thru it. Fullsize luggage won't go thru. Second, staterooms are not available until 1:30. Do you really want to shlep luggage around the ship until then?

If you're checking in right at the port, there is no worries about your luggage; it'll be at your stateroom by dinner for sure, if not sooner. As I said above, only late tranfers of luggage from the airport tend to be late to the staterooms.

I would definitely carry on my laptop. It's too expensive an item and contains too much personal information to be put at the mercy of baggage handlers, in my opinion.

Just read this last night in our documents. Each member is limited to two carry-ons, preferably a small day bag that will fit through the security scanner and a handbag type item.

Also the information was quite specific about DCL not accepting "checked" luggage that contained computer equipment, camera equipment or beverage containers.

With those two parameters I'm planning on my carryon bag and camera bag as my two. Don't need the handbag - I slip that inside the carry on.

Should we really pack our swimsuits in the carry on? Do the kids really go swimming on that first afternoon? I thought the kids would want to go to the Oceaneer Lab or Common Grounds. Besides isn't there a life boat drill in the middle of the afternoon?

Yes, I would put your swimsuits in the carry on. The kids clubs are only open for sign in until after dinner. The pools are less crowded at this time and it is the best opportunity to swim.
