Carry On Bag Size

I stopped buying luggage after a set was ruined. I now buy the tall rolling dufflebags that go on sale on Black Friday for $10 each. They are about 30" long and not too wide, no wider than a normal carry on. My question is if this is too big as a carryon for the cruise?

The reason I ask is I can use this instead of having 3 smaller carryons (1 each). This way I am managing a single bag instead of 3. I also know I have all medications, electronics, and important stuff in 1 place.

DCL specifies carryons should not exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep; apparently that is the maximum size their x-ray machines can process.

But if it can fit in through the X Ray scanner then your ok.

If it can fit through airport scanners (which are basically what they have at the port), then you're fine. You'll have to drag it around until your room is ready at 1:30, but one carry on is definitely better than three!

Carry on for what? The boat? Certainly not- I carry on full-size luggage! If you mean airline, that's waaaay over the limit.

I wouldn't count on it. At one time DCL did specify 22X14X9 inches as being the max size for carry ons. But that exact wording has been eliminated. No telling if it will be reinstated.

Personally, I don't think that a full size bag is a "carry on". But it certainly can BE carried on.

Technically, yes. But I've seen manual scanning done. It's a pain as it holds up the line, but it's done.

A professional video tripod (think golf club hard case) went through no problem. If you need it with you then do it.

At Port Canaveral there's only one security screening point, ground level before going up the escalator to the check in lobby. Everyone goes through the same line.

Unless things have changed, there are actually 3 checkpoints: the main one at the front (with two stations IIRC), then a VIP/Concierge one accessed through a side door which is also sometimes used for regular guests arriving on a DCL bus, and then a third one on the skybridge from the parking structure (parking structure guests don't ever go to the ground level where the other checkpoints are).

Well, those match what many airlines use as a limit, and those dimensions are based on what will fit in an overhead compartment on most aircraft. Consider how an x-ray machine operates: if the limits were based on that, then only two of the three dimensions would be limited, as the third dimension has no practical length for something that can be carried.

Every time we've arrived via DCL bus, and every time we've been told to go around to the front of the building and use the main door to get in and go through security. Never saw a side door.

And, you're right, I forgot about the skybridge entrance. Sorry.
