My little girl is 4 1/2 and we still use my Maya Wrap double ring sling. We live in Oklahoma and when the tornado siren goes off, like it did this May, she goes in the carrier. She feels safe and I have hands free and can easily traverse the steep ladder stairs into our shelter which her little legs cannot manage yet.
I love the wide padded shoulder area and the tail's pocket.
I still bring it to Disney, the zoo, and other places with large crowds. She gets very nervous in large crowds and so I sling her when the people concentration is too high.
She weigs 33 pounds and I can easily carry her for up to an hour in the sling but just a few minutes on my hip and in my arms.
The biggest part of the comfort is getting her nice and tight. When she is tight to my body core it does not tire me, or my back, as quickly as when I leave the sling loose.
When she was a baby we would do entire park days in that sling.
Now she goes in for fireworks or if the bus is super crowded at the end of the day.
Many of my baby wearing friends adore the Ergo, but it does not fit my body. With the ring sling it fits me, my hubby, teenaged son, and twenty something daughter.
I loved that my Maya wrap came with an instructional video. It helped so much to see exactly what to do and the variations.
The wrap was used from day one and will be the last piece of gear I still use, other than the Britax convertible car seat! Talk about getting my moneys worth on those items!
