I am staying at POFQ in May and thinking of doing a carriage ride on our last night there. Has anyone done this? Was it worth it? As I understand it, you call 60 days in advance to book it and then the carriage will just pick you up in front of Boatwright's? Do you get a confirmation or ticket when checking into the resort?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've done the sleigh ride at Wilderness Lodge twice. You get a confirmation number, but nothing when you check-in. Once I was staying at the Poly, and the other time I was staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

When you call they'll tell you the pickup point.

We did this about two years ago when staying at POFQ -- we didn't book in advance, but once we were at the resort, we called and made a reservation. We went over to POR and the found the horse and carriage stop right in front of Boatwrights. We said our name and the driver checked his list, and we paid cash. It was lovely -- it drove us around POR by the Mansions and then over to POFQ and around that resort before returning.

Did your driver talk to you the entire time? ours did and it rather killed the romatic feel of the whole thing, but no polite way to say shut up.

No, luckily -- that would have driven me crazy! You are right, though, it is hard to say shut up politely . . .

How many were in your party? We have a family of 6, myself, DH, and 4 DD's 10 and under. The baby is barely 2. So I checked on reserving, but they said I would need 2 carriages. I think they were including the little one. Would you book one for a party of five, and hope to be let on?

I think the max was a party of 5 . . . however, given the ages of your kids and given that probably two of them will end up on the parents' laps, I would probably book for 5 and I can't imagine you not being let on! Since they will allow 4 full sized adults, your family will take up less room than that.

DH, DD and I did this in May for DH's birthday this past May.... it was soooo much fun! People waved at us as we passed by, like we were the stars of a parade!!!!! :cloud9:

do they drop you off infront of boatwrights and how long does it last?

Yes, you come back to the same location (and the next people are usually there waiting to board!). I think it was about 30 minutes or so.

Try to get the last ride of the night, that way there is not a rush to get back and pick up the next fare. I find that a well timed kiss with your partner will probably end the conversation from the driver. Remember to bring a bottle of wine and plastic glasses - it will add to the romance.
