How easy (or hard) is it to fix creaky floorboards? Our house is 18 years old and there are a couple of floorboards on the second floor that creak and it drives me nuts! Eventually we want to replace all the carpet upstairs so I was wondering if when we did this the floorboards could some how be fixed or am I doomed to keep my squeaks?

If you will be replacing the carpeting soon, I would just pull the carpet back in the rooms you will be re doing and nail a few wood nails into the floorboards!

What ChristmasElf said. Step on your floor and wherever you find a creak, put in a nail or two.

what type of floor is under the carpeting?

if its plywood under carpet, you may be able to stop the squeeks with wood screws,, but make sure the length is not more than 1 1/2 inches .. other wise you might hit a water pipe, air duct, etc, nails are not the best option. if its planking, again screws will work, but if its hardwood you will ruin the hardwood so it is no longer refinishable.
