Ha! I was in the COP last week when it broke down as well, though it was a different day!
At first I was a bit skeptical, and thought that a bit of CM highjinks was going on. I say this because the CM operating the ride seemed pretty bored with it, and kept making jokes about the ride. For instance, he held up a telephone that was on the control panel down at the front and left of the stage in the first room (the cog room, we called it) and said, "They call it the Carousel of Progress, but look at this: (Holds up phone) A rotary dial phone!" He kept making jokes like that. It was kinda funny.
Then, when the ride started, just like someone else said, it was really creepy. All the anamatronic characters seemed half "off." Their lips moved, but they stayed stationary. The Host was looking off to the side the whole time. The dog didn't move, nor did any of the family. Again, I thought maybe the CM was just playing around to see if anyone would say anything. I thought for sure the next room would be fine.
Instead, the second room was the same way...as was the third. At the end of the third room, the theater didn't rotate. We sat through the entire "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" song, and then the room started over again. Amongst a bunch of giggling, someone in the front row walked out the emergency door. Then, finally, a CM came on the loudspeaker and said their was a techincal problem and that we'd all have to leave.
It was pretty cool.
