Carousel of Progress' Future?

I love CP, it is such a great ride. I do think the last scene should be updated to show the future. I think the scenes depicting the past are great and don’t need updated, I mean the past is static. What does change is that the present becomes the past and the future evolves. Almost everything in the “future” scene is now the present or even the past. You can now install a home automation system that ties your fridge and lights into computer systems, that video game is very outdated, the clothing is outdated. It doesn’t have to look like a bad sci-fi flick, but some changes could be made without changing the theme of the attraction.

What could be done is adding a scene for the future and make the current last scene a look back at the 80’s. There would have to be some small changes made and the audio would have to change, but it could be done. The first room is pretty much just audio and a static display. We would start in what is now the turn of the century scene and the opening spiel could be given with the current CoP image just projected instead of physically there Then the curtain raises to show the first period scene. The same could be done at the end of the new scene which would replace the pre-program scene we enter now. When the last scene is done a curtain could come down and the closing presentation made with the CoP symbol projected on the curtain.

A PoTC or HM style rehab could work, a Tiki room one would be a disaster.

As a child I remember being bored to death by COP. I couldn't fully appreciate it. As an adult I can appreciate it better, but I still believe that it could do with some revamping at the very least.

Last time I rode it, we sat inside the theatre for a full 20 mins after the CM did her little spiel before the ride even started. Through the entire ride we kept stopping and restarting, and the outer doors kept opening as well. We were behind the scenes by several minutes nearly the whole time. It was weird and kind of awkward. I remember leaving feeling very letdown afterwards.

I agree with some threads that a little promotion as a "historical" Disney ride could help COP out (as well as some outside decoration and a total indoor restoration), but I also believe that Walt Disney would never let an outdated ride stand in the way of progress. That's that the ride is about for Pete's sake!

Far be it from me to say what the Disney gurus should do, but if it were up to me, I would retire this ol' gal with plenty of warning and a proper sendoff. It could be done in a way that all (or at least most) could be happy with. (Unlike 20K, but that's another story.) Anyways...that's just my opinion. Take it or leave it.
