Does anybody know if one of my favorite WDW attractions, "The Carousel of Progress" is still in operation? When I asked them they told me to come and visit to find out. That's no answer! I also heard that the "Extra-Terrestrial Alien Encounter" was closed. That was a great attraction. I also miss "The World of Motion" at EPCOT. I cannot ride on "Test Track" as I get motion sickness.

Carousel of Progress is listed as a seasonal attraction, meaning they only open it when they are expecting very heavy crowds. That being said, it is currently open while Alien Encounter is closed. AE is being made into Stitch's Escape. So until it opens they have Carousel of Progress open, although it usually has shorter operating hours.

Yep, it's seasonal. Supposedly, they open it when there are large crowds. I too love Carousel of Progress and Alien Encounter. And don't even get me started on World of Motion and Horizons....I'm still mourning the loss.

We love this ride!

Anyone else sing along and get dirty looks from the people around you?

My wife and I were just there for Valentine's Day and it was opened all day. We watched it twice as we normally go to WDW during the off season when it is closed.

And yes we get the dirty looks while singing along....although that could be due to the quality of our singing as much as anything.

I recently went on this in January and found it to be great! The song is really good...I kept singing it to myself the rest of my trip!

While on the Keys to the Kingdom tour in Jan. the cm's strongly hinted that if you love the Carousel of Progress attraction, then you better ride it know. It was pretty clear that they were saying that it won't be there for much longer. DH and I rode it for the 1st time that trip. It was really neat and I hate to see it go.

Can I just say what huge idiots we were on that with? This man and his family GOT UP and attempted to LEAVE the theater between the first and second scenes. The dad looked so shocked when the door hit something solid...screwed up the whole theater, etc...and he still got out. I hope they kicked him out of the park for the day. Idiot!!! :crazy2:

I took my DD for the first time on our visit last October. I thought she would not like it (she's 9) and think it was boring. Boy, was I wrong. She was singing along by the end of it -- we had a great audience, everyone was singing along. It was a lot of fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing COP for the first time next week. I'm glad it's open.:D

I'm actually old enough to recall seeing the Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New York World's Fair when I was 8 yrs. old. I must say that in 7 trips to WDW over the years I don't think I recall ever seeing it there. Has it been in light rotation that long?

I hope they keep it, if just for its historical significance.

COP is generally open every day with AE down for refurb - they originally had Timekeeper open as well but that seems to have gone back to seasonal status only

COP is a neat attraction - simple but effective

thanks

It was opened for both our recent trips in December and again last week. I took my mother and she absolutely loved it! It is one of my very favorites!!!

It was open during our December trip, including being open for MVMCP. We love it, I sure hope Disney doesn't get rid of it.

It was open last week and the week before when we were there.
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow....shinning at the end of everyday....

As I sit here listening to the entire COP version I downloaded, I just cannot wait to go back in July. I have not gone to WDW in 5 years, but that will all end in 5 months. It is funny how obsessed I am with an attraction that is so simple. There isn't much but a show. What is it that has me so hooked? Well, I hope you get to see it on your next trip!

This story, I mean!! CoP was and is the most lasting memory I have of WDW. The first time I went in 1984 it had the song, "Now is the time" instead of GBBT. My kids were young (and so was I) we sang that song all the way back home and it has never left my memory. Neighbors that we encouraged to go to WDW came back singing that song and to this day, whenever we get together, that subject always comes up.

They even have the words to NITT stuck on the fridge.

I am going to miss it when it is gone and it is almost criminal that they don't just fix it an keep it as part of park history.

Now is the time
Now is the best time
Now is the best time of your life.

Life is a prize, live every minute.
Open your eyes and watch how you win it!

Yesterdays memories may sparkle and gleam,
tomorrow is still but a dream.
Right here and now,
you've got it made.
The worlds forward marching and your in the parade!

Now is the time
Now is the best time
Be it a time of joy or strife.
There's so much to cheer for, be glad you're here,
For it's the best time of your life.

Hi Myron. Have you ridden on test track? The reason I ask is, I also suffer from motion sickness and Test Track doesn't make me queasy at all. In fact, I love it! It is one of the few "fun" rides my DH and I do together. If you have already done it and you got queasy, that stinks! However, if you haven't tried it...you may want to rethink it. Just to let you know...I don't do any simulator rides, rollercoasters, spinny rides, or rides that drop! See, I have motions sickness!! :) Good luck! Dawn
