Carousel of Progress - Are they wearing rings?

My DH doesn't wear his ring b/c it's dangerous. Before we got married I used to tell him that I thought that was an excuse...and that I would expect him to wear his ring once we got married.

One day (premarriage) he called me up and said "C'mon on over to XX hospital I want to show you something. (It was a few blocks away so I went during lunch hour.) I meet future DH in waiting room and he opens a little container and says "do you know what that is? It is my partners ring finger. It fell off during the use of machinery. He was wearing his ring and he lost the whole thing....ring...finger...bone and all. It was my job to find my partners finger in the rubble, and bring it to hospital to see if it could be reattached. :scared1:

(FYI - they couldnt' reattach it....and I never made him wear his ring to work after marriage.)

FWIW - he never forgets to put it on the other 16 hours a day :-)

Me however...I'm not a jewelry person. Most people think I'm single out of sheer stupidity in not remembering to put my ring on.

If I'm offensive for believing that wearing your wedding ring is sign of commitment, then I'm guilty. I don't believe it shows you are committed any more or any less than the other guy, whether or not that's what you believe I inferred.

These two sentences are contradictory. That's the problem. It's good that you're trying to be polite, but when you say wearing a wedding ring shows commitment, you also are making a comment about people who don't whether you specifically mention them or not.

So, the original post was a simple question by a curious individual.

Followed immediately by a polarizing post by a Kid (see user id).

Perhaps we could try to learn to recognize the :stir: and ignore them.

GET A GRIP PEOPLE! Good grief! It's a disney message board! People need to stop taking things so freaking seriously!

Rings are a sign of marriage. If you dont wear one for whatever reason, Fine! If you do, FINE! I could CARE LESS WHAT YOU DO! I wear one and that's all I care about. It can mean something different to everyone. To me it is a reflection of my committment to my spouse and God.

However, if you dont wear them, that's fine!!!! nothing wrong with it! Not everyone is a Christian and hey, that's ok.

I think people need to chill. Really to be offended by something said by someone you have never met, and has no influence on your life, on a fan message board is really getting over the top.

Wow. Today people are offended at the least of things. Life is too short people. Get over yourselves and live your life. Stop letting eveyrone else in teh world dictate your mood and happiness.

There are christians who don't wear rings. It is not a requirement in oreder to be a part of the christian faith as far as I know.

You're a lot more worked up than the two of us involved in the discussion. Soapbox mentality here on the disboards.

OK OK OK. PIcky picky picky. I was just making a point. People..........RELAX. RELAX. It's ok. Just relax. We should all be lawyers as picky as we seem to be.

Again... good grief! It must be pick on a stranger day on the DIS.

To quote Thumper, "If you can't say sumthin' nice... don't say nuthin' at all..."

Wait a second here, what's the point of capitalizing the first two letters of the first "picky"? Is that some sort of secret code calling us a mean name maybe? What are you trying to pull exactly?

PI is the new MEAN NAME unless of course you like being called a mathematical constant, an irrational number and a transcendental number :)

I think both John and Sarah would be very disappointed with the bitterness in this thread about their marriage. They have both been happily married since the Worlds Fair in 1964 regardless of their rings (that they both wear).

....and they're off! Back the the "christians" again! Hey, duh, I'm presbyterian and consider myself to be a christian even though I'm not "born again". Nah nah neener neener. My husband and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary next April and I don't wear a ring, I don't feel the need to tell the world that I'm in a committed relationship, it's no one's business but ours, nope, not even god's.

Poor OP, just asked a simple little question. :rotfl:

(As soon as I see or hear someone mention "family values" I feel the little hairs on the back of my neck go up.)

I think a lot of people have way to much time on their hands. This question should of been answered with a yes or a no.

We thought the "Mr." did have one, but couldn't see the "Mrs.". Her left hand is very visible in the last scene. I guess next time we will have to sit down in front to the right.

Sorry, I didn't mean the post to set off a firestorm of controversy.

Exactly! :thumbsup2

No need for you to appologize, you asked a simple question. Can't help that instead of a simple answer you had to go through people's psychi about their beliefs
