OK, so we had an honest-to-God group of carolers tonight. They knocked on the door at about 6:10 (I was covered in almond bar and in a tank top with my hair in a knot on top of my head).

There were about 20 of them, and they were GOOD! They stood on the street. We really didn't know what to do when they were done. We clapped and yelled YAY!! but we're fresh out of wassail and figgy pudding ... :confused3

(Heh. It was so nice though. I finally feel Chrismas-y...)

The Carolers go caroling to bring YOU joy. They aren't looking for anything other than a smile.

The applause was more than enough.

My DD is going caroling Thursday night, I certainly hope all she gets is applause or clapping! :rotfl2:

When we went when we were kids, there was always a planned house to go in and get cocoa/cookies....for all the rest a thank you was more than enough. We were offered donations for our youth group, but we always said no.

These were serious people. I was so not in a Christmas mood, and they really, really brightened my evening. I'm not sure if they were from a local church or not, but I wish I'd had about 30 minutes notice -- I have BATCHES of candy I could have handed out.

ETA: Ok, DANG! These were neighbors!! There was a flyer in our mailbox I've been ignoring all week and it was a local couple who holds a Bible study every Thursday night. Really nice!

What a nice treat!! I was just thinking about caroling today, thinking that you don't see it anymore. On DH and my first "dates" we went caroling, that was 23 years ago this month. I wish I lived in your neighborhood, that would have been a fabulous treat! The last time I saw carolers was probably 6 years ago when we lived in Italy.

I've never had a caroler in my life. I would kind of like it. I'm with you though. The whole time I would have felt awkward. I wouldn't have known what to do!

Oh I always loved caroling when I was a young teen. Wish there would be some around. Haven't seen any in years.

Y'all should come live in my neighborhood....my next door neighbor holds a caroling party every Christmas season. I absolutely DREAD it, but I go because I would never want to seem un-neighborly. My problem is that I really can't sing. Nor can DH or the kids. So we go and just sorta walk around with them and then sing really low so we don't drown out any of the few who really can sing. :rotfl:

Its this coming Saturday night this year. Fortunately we already had set plans so we can't make it. I honestly breathe a sigh of relief on the years where we have a scheduling conflict.

DD has had a caroling party every year for about the last three years. The girls just love going out and singing. One neighbor did give them a $5 bill once and they decided to donate it to the local food shelf. They just love doing it and people clapping and saying Merry Christmas is all they want.
