Carnival Panorama passengers being held onboard in Long Beach

Do the math :

take about 3 days off ..say 1 pre and two post (at home relaxing b4 heading back to work) = 32 hours
your 7 day vacation = 56 hours
you get quarantined or etc aprx 100-112 hours

and to add it 16 hours just for the heck of it cuz you are trying to destress yourself 16 hours
out.... --------------------
216 hours
'sake of argument = 300 hours just to be safe
( IMO 300 hours you need in your time and leave work "bank" ....use approx 220 hours and then have 80 houts left over just in case as imo its not smart to totally drain out your time and leave just to go on vacation)

ANY QUESTIONS??

again, people - use common sense when making travel choices as your behavior could impact others.......................

Apparently, when you say use common sense, you mean everyone should agree with how you would plan for this.

I did the math - and it is NO WHERE near your doom and gloom (that you have posted in several threads) of needing 300-400 hours of vacation time.

At most I take one day off pre-cruise to get to my location (8 hours vacation time)
I have one week off (for most people, me included, that requires 40 hours vacation, time not 56 - sorry you work 7 days a week but with 16 hours of overtime each week, you should have built up enough cushion to afford unexpected time off of work!) so I am up to 48 hours vacation time for my one week cruise - under normal circumstances.
If I am quarantined for 2 weeks, that's another 80 hours of sick/personal/vacation time etc that I would need. That's 128 hours of Personal Time Off - no where close to your 300-400 hours needed.

If I'm not sick but have been quarantined for 2 weeks, I'm not going to need 16 hours of "de-stress" time to get back to work. But you already built in that time with your your first sentence - 1 day pre; 2 days post - remember? So it's more likely that It's your math that needs to be checked.

So, I guess I don't have common sense by your definition because I don't have 300-400 hours of time to take but I'm going on vacation anyway.

If you are taking a 7 day vacation , then in my opinion ... you need to have a total of 300 to 400 hours of work vacation time built up to cover just in case one is quarantined.
If one doesn’t have this built up, then in my opinion .... one has to make a choice ....
Including if one chooses to go through ones work HR department for an answer.

Q- is relying upon others for your own destiny a good choice?

A- only you know that answer -

please people... use common sense when making travel / vacation plans as the choices you make could impact others....

The vacation time wasnt an issue. He is at the point in his career he had more than enough time to cover the five weeks off. For the past two years he's lost vacation time because he has more than he can be spared. for us it really boiled down to the position he'd be putting his coworkers in.

For those that dont have an obscene amount of vacation time banked, it seems to me that this could easily fall under a sick leave, either paid or unpaid depending on your particular situation. If your employer insists on quarantine upon return from Level 2+ vacations, ask how they are anticipating you charge that time before you make your final decision.

As for your vacation math @knewton64 it seems a little too high to me. You can easily cut the two days post since you will be quarantined. Ditto for the destressing 16 hours. That's a gain of 32 hours right there. And I think 2 weeks (80 hours) of extra, emergency banked time seems a little much for most probably. Most companies give 2-3 "personal holidays" per year. IMO, it would be fine for most people to run out their vacation on the quarantine if necessary and use these personal holidays for things that pop up. But I do agree that most people should plan on the very real possibility of needing 3 weeks off for a 1 week cruise (and vacations to Level 2+ countries) right now. They should clear their work calendar as much as possible and make sure the dog/ kid sitters are available for the entire time.

It would also be a good idea to make sure you can manage your postal account on line in case you need to extend a mail stop. If you typically leave a note for your carrier, now is a good time to go to usps.com and make an account.

Use common sense when making your travel decisions as what you chose to do may impact others .

That’s all my message is -!

some are understanding and taking heed as this is all new territory for all.

Some may have the luxury of petitioning their HR department should it cone to that .

I chose self reliance over relying upon others -
But again , it all boils down to choices .

Hope that person is successful thru their hr department.
My remark was to a dual audience ... not just to people who have HR to go to for potential relief .

others might not be so fortunate and it’s to those I’m noticing my message is reasonating more.

that’s all I trying to do - is get out the message as this is all new to us .

anywho -

and hope all of us can get thru this without losing our minds .

Peace out y’all
