Carnevale in Venice

We made it to Carnevale in Venice this weekend (equivelent to Mardi Gras in New Orleans), and I wanted to share some photo's with you all.

A view from our boat as we approach the harbor.

The Angel of Carnevale making his decent into the square. This signifies the official start of Carnevale for 2004.

The Parade of costumes.

I thought this was pretty amusing with the woman in the "stockade".

Cool pictures. It's so interesting how different people around the world celebrate the time before lent. After the parade, are there parties? Eating, drinking, merriment kind of thing?

There are folks all over the place all doing their own thing and there are organized events throughout the day. The folks in costumes wander the streets and alleyways and you can find street performers in different squares around the city.
