Does anybody remember a counter service ice cream/food restaraunt, near the Rancho walk through, to the left of the castle?
What was it's name? I think it was Carnation Gardens, but not sure...
Anyway, what are they using that area for now? They also used to have dancing there at night...
I'm dating myself, here!

Well there is still dancing there. Usually Jazz on the weekends and in summer. Now it's called Plaza Gardens Stage. It has a small dancing area under a tent with the band. Also some tables, and the walkway still exists a great way to go to beat crowds.

They still use the area for swing dancing on Friday and Saturday nights.

They also use the area for band performances when they invite different school groups to perform.

They did away with the ice cream at that location, though... Sad it was fun to get ice cream there, and watch the fireworks.. it's a nice area to sit and rest, lol!

I do remember when it was Carnation Gardens! I think it went away about 10 or 12 years ago. They also served burgers there.

The swing dancing is so fun to watch!

Thanks DLander! I just wasn't sure what if anything is there now. I remember they had tow different sections.
Left side hamburgers, etc... right side ice cream!
I always got my Fantashia there! Sure do miss that stuff!:sad1:

I remember it very well! It looked so pretty lit up at night, with all of those twinkling lights that matched the ones on Main Street. It was a nice place to get a quick meal and/or some ice cream.

Even better, though, was when Carnation Cafe' was a real icecream parlor (that also served food!), with a large indoor seating area...

Yes! Remember the Carnation Cafe sundae's?
I loved the Snow White, it had Marshmellow cream sauce, and carmel... and the Big Thunder sundae, etc... all we're named after the park.
On cold days it was nice to eat inside...

Oh, yes, I do! I remember the Matterhorn especially! (I know they have it on the menu at the current CC, but IIRC, the one at the original was much more impressive!)

I love your signature line! I always wanted to stay at the Galaxy! lol.

Thanks; it's from an old AAA guidebook!

I got to stay at the Stovall's "space" hotels back when they still had their theme...and, yes, it was just as cool as you'd imagine!

There are still some leftover "space age" things at both Stovall's and Pavilions. In some of the rooms at Stovall's, the original bathroom doorknobs are still there:

And at both of the hotels, the pools are still shaped like an Apollo space capsule!

Are they still doing the swing dancing on the weekends in November? I checked the schedule and it doesn't show it on the Friday we are going. We saw it past this summer and enjoyed it so much.

I remember getting ice cream cones at the Carnation Garden as a kid. They had a flavor exclusive to Disneyland called "Fantasia." It was our family tradition to get these ice cream cones on every trip.

I never got to stay at any of the Best Westerns back then. I was a kid, and we we're staying at the Saga... they had a great pool, we always stayed there.
I really thought they looked cool though! What a awesome door nob!

My sister at Carnation in 1965 in the middle of a hot summer day.

What a cool retro picture! Thanks for sharing.
I don't think I have any pictures of it... maybe on the video camera from the 90's...
