Carnation Cafe vs Refreshment Corner Chili

Is the chili at Carnation Cafe and Refreshment Corner the same? I don't want to have to do a reservation for just me for Walt's Chili. If not the same, any preference between the two? Thanks

We didn’t have the chili, but overall we were not impressed by Carnation Cafe. We found the portions to be small and not worth the money!

I'm curious what you ordered also! We usually start with an order of fried pickles, then I have to have the baked potato soup while my daughter has Walt's chili. If we are really hungry, we split a burger or sandwich. Or the Chicken fried chicken! So good. The chili is different according to my daughter. She prefers the chili at Carnation Cafe. Portions are pretty good sized.

My DH frequently orders the chili at both places. He likes Carnation's better - larger chunks of hamburger meat, tomatoes and onions. He said the meat in the chili at Refreshment Corner is more finely minced.

As far as portion sizes, the meat loaf has been large enough for my adult daughter and me to share every time we've ordered it. I've also had the Romaine Salad with Shrimp and it was a generous portion.

We love the meatloaf too! We all leave Carnation Cafe stuffed and never room for a dessert.

I don’t remember The meal wasn’t bad it just didn’t make an impression. It wasn’t the meatloaf or the chili. If we ever go back we’ll try those items. I think my husband tried one of the salads trying to be healthy- he liked the salads at the bakery in DTD much better. I’m wracking my brain and seriously can’t remember what I ordered.

One advantage to Carnation Cafe's chili: it can be ordered along with the burger and fries, thus giving you the option for a DIY chili burger and chili fries.

So, with all of the yahs for Carnation's chili. How easy is it to get seated, probably for lunch, for 1 person without a reservation? I am thinking of hitting it the day I land, because my friends will be abandoning me for lunch at Club 33 I don't want to make a reservation, since I am not sure what time I will make it to the park or eat lunch. I have really been wanting to try Walt's chili. I don't get out to DLR often enough.

Depends on the day. I would think you'd have a chance, but if it is a Sat or Sun, dunno. I've been there many times on weekends when it is reservations only.

This would be a Wednesday, but it's the Wednesday before D23 Expo.
