Carmax, anyone?

I've sold cars to them, until the last one when a dealer offered more than CarMax. :lmao:

I haven't bought from them, but I have lots of friends that have with no problems. I bought a used Rav4 a few years ago. I took my time looking, as I was in no rush, and I was trying to decide how much I really wanted to spend and what I wanted for it. In my search, I did find that CarMax was more expensive than most other options: from owner, from the used car only dealerships, even from Toyota dealerships.

Ultimately, I bought on older one with extremely low mileage. (checked carfax for service records. I think it was a little old lady that only used it on Sundays and had it serviced regularly at her dealership.) Anyway, I found that one at a Toyota dealership. Based on its age alone, CarMax wouldn't have had it on their lot. Because I purchased it at a Toyota dealership, I was able to purchase a Toyota warranty, good at any dealership nationwide. Sure, it cost a bit, but I was hoping to get another 8-10 years out of an 8 year old car. So far, 2 down and 6-8 to go!!!

This is ridiculously untrue!

:rolleyes2
Yup, you're absolutely right. It was merely a figment of my imagination searching a select few cars I was looking to find for 2 months at the beginning of last year. I guess my eyes were deceiving me with the $18000 prices of Honda Accords at the dealership vs. the $21000 prices at Carmax. Same with Subaru, and same with the Toyotas that I was looking at.

I suppose too that the Toyota financial manager was speaking the absolute truth when he said that he scours all over the area to make absolutely sure that he is the lowest price of $25K on his Rav4 and he guaranties that I won't find another one around cheaper. I'm not looking forward to the extra bill that should be coming soon for the Rav4 that I bought 40 miles away that really wasn't $19K and I'll be on the hook for the extra $6k since it's impossible as the Toyota guy says I'll never find one cheaper...

Why don't you post your location? That seems to have a big difference on pricing differences... Maybe your scenario is typical in your neck of the woods but not other areas...
