Hi all,

A few questions about Caricature Artists.

Are there many of them in the parks? I hear there are some at the resorts too.

The only drawings I can find is just of faces or full bodies, but do they do anything Disney like to them? Meaning a castle? Mouse ears? Backgrounds?

Last question... Get ready..:laughing::laughing:
Do they draw things besides humans?
If I bring 2 stuffed animals will they just do drawings of them?

We have stuffed animals that we take on every trip (their names are "The Grandpas") and we usually get pictures of them, or do something special with them. I thought a Caricature would be fun for this trip.

Thanks!

They'll probably do whatever you want. I know there were some at Animal Kingdom kind of near Primeval Whirl.

They did one of my 2 kids, and they added the 4 park icons (MK castle, AK tree of life, etc.) as well. Think it was $20.

There was always one right outside the food court at Pop Century. When we were getting ours he mentioned that Pop is the busiest so they always have someone there.

These guys are amazing - they can do anything!! I'd think they would welcome the chance to:

1) Do something different
2) Have someone that KNOWS what they want rather than having to pull it out of them.

At AK, the guy who did mine and my BFF's was pretty good. He did our "faces" and then we got to pick what kind of animal body we wanted- I chose mermaid, and my friend chose a cheetah. They turned out really well!!

My DD had hers done on her 10th birthday at DTD. She just had the face/neck done.

He added in "mickey" clouds. The caricature is beautiful. It looks like a black and white photo of her. :)

We have it framed and hanging on her bedroom wall.

We had DD's done at DHS outside of the Brown Derby. She was only 18 months old at the time and was happy to be out of the stroller, so she kept running back and forth between me sitting at the cart and Daddy standing against the railing along the walk way across from the cart. He captured the spirit if her perfectly and drew her running with a Mickey balloon and had the park icons in the background. I think I'm going to get an updated on this next trip.

Thanks everyone!
I'm going to do this and share with you the final result. :)

I highly recommend it. We were very pleased, framed them and put them up in our boys room. Best thing we've brought back from WDW.

Does anyone know if they have one at the Beach Club? Also, what is the cost? I know someone above said they paid $20. Is that the cost everywhere or does it vary? My DD is interested in doing this on our upcoming trip in September.

My DD had one done outside of Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary. The artist would do a caricature of you as a Disney character. DD asked to be done as Princess Tiger Lily. The artist was really excited as she had never been asked to do her before. She did need to refer to her phone as a guide to the costume, etc. but it came out very nice. Really looked like DD too. The only thing I wished I had asked is to do a flying Peter Pan in the sky.

Very excited to hear there is one at POR. Hoping to get my boys to sit still long enough to get a family one done!

The planner in me needs to know - how long do these usually take??

:goodvibes

I was a theme park caricature artist about fifteen years ago. An individual would take about four minutes total. A few more minutes for a couple. If it was color it would take just a couple minutes more.

Park guests were always afraid to get one during the day because they thought it would take a long time, but they wouldn't take longer than 10 minutes. Additionally, guests worried about having to carry the caricatures with them around the park all day and the possibility of them getting damaged. We sold mats, frames, and tubes to protect them, and we also offered to hold onto the artwork for them to pick up at the end of the day. The fears mentioned above led to us getting flooded with customers at night as they were heading out of the park and closing time approached.

It you want to make it easier on yourselves, get them done during the day while there's no wait. I don't know if Disney's caricaturists "upsell" the mats, frames, and tubes, but you can save money by bringing your own carboard tube (or letting Guest Relations hold it for you or have it sent to your room) and getting a cheap frame when you get home.

Yes.. I'd like to know about how much too.

Also do you tip these artists?

Thanks!

A few years ago ago I got one at Animal Kingdom, me and the person I was dating at the time, and it was $30 color for our faces.

Where ever you decide to have it done, watch the artists do other people first. That way you can decide if you like their style and skills. As people have mentioned, they are located all around, so you can find more than 1 person that is doing them.

We did them at AK near Dinoland a couple of years ago. DS chose the full body with himself as a Jedi (that was close to $30 if I recall) and DD chose only her head (more like $20)

The artist we had was great and we have them framed in the kids' rooms....we bought frames at home instead of trying to get those home without being broken from AK.

These are so much fun. I now have one of my son done each trip and it is so nice to see how they differ each time by artist and by how much my son has grown. We have had them done at AK and at resorts. There are artists who will do actual nice portraits too (Grand Floridian and ?? Epcot France?) but we do the caricatures. Love it.
