Has anyone stayed at the Caribe Royale Resort and if so what was it like? We'll be there for a few days attending a convention and don't know much about it. Even after all the times we've been in Orlando we never knew this hotel existed.

Any info would be appreciated.

My friends are there right now, When they come back I will get some info for you and post it. :sunny:

This is a convention resort, and as such is rather confusing in it's layout. It has some age on it, and it is starting to show. Shabby hall carpets, marked walls, that sort of thing.

The food is too be missed. Eat somewhere else. The staff is not always well informed on the hotel's information, but do try and are pleasant enough.

It's certainly not a bad place to stay, but not in the league with Gaylord Palms, the huge Marriott, and places of that sort.

We stayed there at the beginning of the month. The lobby is very nice, and the rooms are big and a little dated but o.k. We stayed in a handicapped accessible room, so it was possibly a bit less worn. They keep these rooms in case they are needed, but will give them to anyone if they have excess inventory.

The room had a microwave and a mini-fridge. The pool slide was a big hit with the kids, and the deli had some nice offerings of snacks to take to the parks. You could get a to go snack bag with juice, apple, muffin, and danish for $5. Not bad compared to on property prices.

I would say it was as nice as a Disney moderate, but not as nice as MGV or Vistana Villages.

Friends of mine spent a week there over Christmas and said never again. She said it was filthy!

We stayed there last year before our cruise and it was terrible.
I had booked through Hotel Kingdom.com and got a good rate and thank heaven I had printed out my sheet from the computer and not just written down the confirmation # as they tried to change the price. Then the rooms were not cleaned properly, had to fight to get a second pillow and and top sheet for the sofa bed and one day we were left one tea bag and two sugars for four adults!! The rooms are also begining to look quite shabby.
This year we are going back to Buena Vista Suites ( next door) which we have enjoyed previously and you also get a free breakfast there!!

Same owners and BVS is an older property.

Thinking of changing our reservations but we need to stay in that area close to the Caribe Royale. Any suggestions on hotels near by that are nice and if possible suites?

Hi Lewisc
I do know that they are the same owner ( CR &BVS ) but it doesn't make them alike. Maybe because CR has been more of a convention place, that it has more of an impersonal feel and BVS is smaller and tends to cater to the individual family that it has a more comfortable feel to it. Also when it comes to cleanliness, having stayed at both, the BVS was ( during our stay) much better than CR. Also if you are looking for dollar value the free breakfast at BVS certainly helps when comparing the two.
Just my feelings about these two......

In the immediate area: BVS, Marriott and HIFS. Vistana is also very close.

Wenabre--I agree free breakfast may be signficant. I stayed at Caribe Royale about 2 years ago. At the time they still offered a free breakfast and the hotel was clean. If the owners are cutting back on cleaning in Caribe Royale I'd suspect they might have similar budget cutbacks in BVS.

Most of the posts of CR are generally good. I'd think your problems are more the exception BUT I agree the hotel is more of a convention hotel. The pool area is great but I also agree the increased rates plus the elimination of the breakfast makes the hotel less atttractive to people on a budget.

We paid $99 to stay at the Caribe over New Years. I think their convention rates are pretty reasonable.

Vistana is less than 1 mile away and you won't regret staying there. You can book it at the sheraton site, or sometimes through the discounters. We've stayed there many times and have always been very happy. I stayed at CR 4 years ago and it was fine (but very very pink!!), but as I mentioned before, my friend was very upset about the lack of cleanliness.

We stayed at the caribe royale last August for 18 nights and had a great time. The rooms were clean spacious and houskeeping were always on hand if ever they were needed. There were a number of conventions on during our stay but the pool area never felt crowded.

The snack resturant was fine for breakfast and we even had cooked chicken from there once or twice which was lovely.

We liked this hotel and are staying there again later this year.

Marriott World Center - you can see from this resort.

the road in front 535 - up it a piece (however not close enough to walk to it) is the Calypso - AmeriSuites, County Inn & suities, La Quinta, and several others. (this is Kissimmee)

the closest timeshare is probably Embassy Vacation Resort at Grand Beach.

there is some Holiday Inn Sunspress close to this property and other Marriott's (this is now in Lake Buena Vista not Kissimmee)
