Room refurbishments were under way during our April visit.
We have stayed on site a dozen+ times, and honestly CBR is our least favorite resort by far. It's just too spread out, no elevators for the 2nd floor, the food court had poor selections. We actually went to the food court at Pop to eat twice.
The grounds are nice, a room by the main building might be better, but it just wasn't what we expected.

I agree with you. CBR is just way too large--7 bus stops are too many! If it wasn't so stinking large it would be a nice resort. It is very pretty and has a great theme. I wouldn't stay there again unless I paid for a preferred room. Location is very important at CBR!
We're staying in the pirate rooms in Trinidad South, the farthest village from OPR, and I was worried about the distance, so I mapped it out on LogYourRun and it's only half a mile from the farthest building in TS. Not that far at all...at least to me. I compared the distance to our neighborhood since we regularly walk around it and it's the same distance as walking from our house to the opposite end of the neighborhood (which isn't that big) and halfway back. During the school year, I walk my daughter almost 2 miles round-trip to school every day and it only takes about 15 minutes one-way, so half a mile should only be about 7 minutes...not a big deal to me at all. And I'm looking forward to waking up early and taking a stroll around the grounds in the morning.(Though my feet might hate me later!)

The thing is, nothing @ WDW is a light walk. That half a mile walk might not be a big deal under normal circumstances, but after a day at the park, it won't feel that way. You'll be exhausted, and the last thing you'll likely want to do is to do more walking for food and drink then back. Just something to think about.
