Caribbean Beach Resort - what's the deal?

Greetings all,

I will be staying at the CBR in May. Five people I know have stayed there (two many years ago, one a few years ago, and the other two mor recently) and they all liked it. On these recomendations i booked my trip.

I have now been reading mixd review of the place on All Ears and Trip Advisor. Some people rave abut it, found it to be clean, good food in the food court, fast checkin, good service, and had an enjoyable stay. Others found the rooms filthy, slow checkin, bad service, and mediocore food. You'd think they were talking about two different resorts.

What's the ddeal? Does it depend on the time of year? Peoples expectations? The room choice (standard vs. preferred - we booked preferred rooms). I am a litle nervous about what I will find when I get there. Please help!

Thanks in advance,

Alfred

I think it's a combination of things.

1. There's a subculture of Disney fans who trash hotels routinely. IMHO it's due to two things. One they have a FAVORITE hotel and of course it's sold out so they take another one and then spend thier entire vacation walking around going "at CSR we were closer to the food court" or "At POR they have a better pool" etc. You see this all the time on here where the poster posts "I love CSR, but I had to settle for POR, tell me I won't hate it" If that's your starting point... then there's a good chance your out there looking for things to dislike. There's an even more interersting group that will trash hotels they never stayed at because it makes "thier" choice look better.

2. Unrelistic expectations. Disney fans are amoung the worse for this. They request SPECIFIC rooms etc and then thier vacation is RUINED when they don't get what they want...

Of course all this works the other way. When I posted that I was not happy that CSR gave me a room without power the CSR folks came out of the woodwork to attack me. Apparently requesting POWER is unrealistic and I am a "problem" guest. (Folks, I travel every week POWER is a standard at every hotel I stay in! LOL!)

Personally CBR is MY favorite mod. It was built before Disney got so cheap. Bigger rooms, LOTS of pools and my "standard view" is not likely to be 100% parking lot which is what I got at CSR and POR.

I love the isolation of the "islands" which means you can "get away from it all"

We were there in August for the 2nd time and we loved it. Our room was clean, the grounds are beautiful and the food court was good for breakfast anyway. We always ate the rest of our meals at the parks. The buses were pretty crowded, but we went the first week of free dining.

We might go back to WDW later this year if things go well, and at first we were going to do a deluxe since we got spoiled at our stay at the BC, but when we compared prices, we might just go back to CBR.
