We are staying at CBR for only one night. We plan a day of swimming and eating at the resort followed by the pirate adventure for the kids the next morning.

Given this what building should we request? They also say we can request water view, corner room, etc.. Any benefit to any of these?

Thank you!

We are booked for a water or pool view

Water or pool view determines the view from your room, preferred vs standard indicates which buildings you might be located in with your room category (and how close you will be to the food court and main pool area). You will request a different building depending upon if you are in standard or preferred rooms.

Assuming that you are in a standard room with water/pool view, I would request Jamaica 45 or 44 or Aruba 51.

What @Babsy said. Jamaica and Aruba both have great views of the lake and are a short walk across the bridge to OPR. Jamaica is a bit closer, but as I always harass @dansdad, the Jamaica buildings are just too bright and yellow...as opposed to the subtle tropical purplely pinks of Aruba!

There were 4 options on the DW website when I booked: standard view, preferred room, water or pool view, or king bed. water or pool view wasn't sub-categorized under preferred or standard so now I have no clue which it is!

Here are the options I am given when I going into room requests for advance check-in:

Aruba Village, Barbados Village, Jamaica Village, Martinique Village, Trinidad North Village

As I understand it "water view", since it is a bookable category on its own, can be in any building other than Trinidad South (the Pirate Rooms which have their own water view bookable category).

You are booked in standard unless you booked preferred.

No, water view (and King) rooms can be in any building in any village other than Trinidad South, which are the Pirate Rooms. Pirate rooms have their own water view bookable category. You can book water view and be placed in a preferred building or in a standard building.

I would request Jamaica. If it's as annoyingly bright as KonaKaiTom feels, you won't see that from inside the rooms.

Water view is a bookable category. So is preferred. But at a considerable upcharge. For example, standard is $191, water view is $206, but preferred is $250. If the OP booked a water view room they could be in any non preferred, non Pirates room. Getting a preferred water view room with only a water view room reservation would be a bucketful of pixie dust.

I always like to try for the bucketful! Let's just assume I could possibly get a preferred water view- what building would that be???

But preferred water view is not. Nor is preferred King. However there are king rooms and water view rooms (both more than standard) in preferred buildings.

@dansdad - Haven't you always said that if you book "water view" you could be placed in a standard OR a preferred room that is "water view"?

I would request either of the following:

Trinidad North
Martinique 24, 25 or 26

Any of these will get you extremely close to the Food Court and Main Feature Pool.

It appears you have already booked a water view room so no need to waste a request on that. We do like the corner rooms because they have an extra window that makes the room feel bigger.

Not true. Buildings do not have different classifications, only rooms do.

Assuming that you are in a standard room with water/pool view, I would request Jamaica 45 or 44 or Aruba 51.

There is no such rooms classified as Standard Water View or Preferred Water View, there is only Water View.

That's because there is no such sub-category as Preferred Water View or Standard Water View. Rooms have only 1 category (well except for some of the Pirate Themed Rooms but don't want to confuse things).

Here are the options I am given when I going into room requests for advance check-in:

Aruba Village, Barbados Village, Jamaica Village, Martinique Village, Trinidad North Village

I would highly suggest you call the main reservations line and add your requested location to your reservation. By doing it that way you can request actual buildings instead of an entire Village. I would word my request as:

"Trinidad North or Martinique 24, 25, 26" and "Corner Room".

You are booked in standard unless you booked preferred.

No, OP is booked Water View.

Water view is a bookable category.

Correct.

So is preferred.

Correct.

Again, there are no Preferred Water View rooms at CBR. A room is one or the other.

I understand that. Perhaps I didn't word it as clearly as I could have. I think the discussion is about the likelihood of getting a room with a water view in a preferred building if you have only booked for water view. I was trying to say that this is unlikely, since a preferred room is an upgrade over a regular water view room.

Let me break this down.

Rooms in Trinidad North will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Preferred

Rooms in Martinique 24, 25 and 26 will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Preferred

Rooms in Martinique 21, 22 and 23 will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Standard

Rooms in Barbados 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Standard

Rooms in Barbados 16 will be one of 2 categories

King
Standard

Rooms in Aruba will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Standard

Rooms in Jamaica will be one of 3 categories:

King
Water View
Standard

Now of course the Pirate Themed rooms have to be the oddballs at CBR as some rooms have 2 classifications:

Rooms in Trinidad South are one of 2 categories:

Pirate Themed
Pirate Themed Water View

So as you can see from above, there is a slight advantage to booking a Water View or a King Room. See their upcharge is cheaper than a Preferred Room and you can be placed right next to a Preferred Room with a King or Water View.

But there is no such thing as a preferred building at CBR. Rooms are designated as preferred, not buildings.
