Caribbean Beach Resort ** NEWS & VIEWS **

I was nervous about calling because I was afraid they would not give us any options except switching to another moderate. I can relax and really start planning what we are going to do during our stay. This will really help with our character meals (CRT & Chef Mickey's). With 2 boys (7&4), it will be great to be able to transport the stroller and other "stuff" we will need using the monorail, as well as to be able to watch the fireworks and the electrical water parade from the beach and then get them into bed at a decent hour.

Doing a huge Disney Happy Dance for you!!!!!

I truly believe that there is no WDW vacation decision that is more personal than where you choose to rest your weary head.
It is after all....your "home away from home"....

We all must base our initial hotel decisions on what we are able to afford...be it a value, moderate, deluxe etc...

I salute you....AND ALL OTHERS...who spend sooooo much time...deciding where their "home" will be while at WDW.....I can almost guarantee that you have spent many months and countless hours planning and budgeting meals around this resort...

Its "unforseen" closure means that you may now have to "re-do" your whole trip....the inconvenience can be truly enormous....

You chose CBR...as did I...and thousands of others...for very personal reasons....and now...you find yourself at the Poly....!!!

What might have first seemed to be a "huge disappointment" ....is now a true "blessing in disguise".....PIXIE DUST IS ALL AROUND YOU!!!!!!!

I couldn't be more happier for you (unless of course....if I were at WDW at this moment)!!!!....

If they offer me an upgrade to the Poly....I will most certainly take it.....BUT....I would rather rest "my" sleepy head at the CBR

 :( :o :o :o :o :o

Would you please get off the internet so I can call you to congratulate you! I'm so excited for you, I told you you'd come out smelling like a rose!;) :Pinkbounc

I am booked at CBR too....I am gonna have to call in the am....before it is tooo late.

This is our first trip staying at WDW (2nd trip to Disney) and wouldn't you know it I picked CBR for Oct. I'm wondering if they are only giving the upgrades for those with the longer stays. By the way, I very happy for those who already got this rate!! I'm booked for three nites and would be absolutely blown away if they offered us the Poly for $20 more a nite. We will be there over Columbus Day Holiday. I don't know if I can sit tight? Holidays sound very busy. I was beginning to lose the so called "magic" after I read they were closing CBR. We were very excited about a beach resort. I hope this has a happy ending. I hope Disney is fair and treats all of their clients equally.

First of all ...

Welcome to the DIS!

I think the general consensus is that you should sit tight and let Disney call you. You may be offered an upgrade to a deluxe. If there are no moderates left, it should be a free upgrade. Otherwise, you may be offered an upgrade at a slightly higher price.

There has been a lot of talk about this very thing. You might want to use the search feature and type in "upgrade" and look in the resorts board only.

Thanks for your help!! This website is the "bomb"!! You have so many great tips. I never knew a person needed to do your homework on a Disney vacation. Thanks again!

Hi, I cutting and pasting a post from "MsDisney23" you might enjoy.

CBR / Disney made me an offer today!
***
Hey everyone, here it is. I do have ressie's for the CBR for Nov. 22 to Dec.7th. That is 15 nights. I made my ressie's back in January of this year. I also had them make alot of notes on my ressie's do to some health problems. Disney at the time was able to help me.

This morning i called the CRO, going through my Disney Magic Club. I spoke with CA and ask her to please help me with the ongoing problem with the closing of CBR. She took a look at my ressie's and saw where there had been notes made and how far in advance that I had booked my trip. I also told her that since i would be there for the Thanksgiving Holiday, that I am afraid that i will be displaced somewhere that I may not want to go.

The girl was very very nice, and she ask me if I would mind to hold. She said I will get you moved up on the calling list, as they started to contact the people today. I said I will wait. with a few minutes, I was on the phone with the special team of people from there marketing company that are making the calls. Here is what I was offered:

To move over to another Moderate Resort. Or for $10.00 more a night, I could go to the AKL. For $20.00 more a night, I could go to the Polynesian. Wow, I got the Polynesian for $109.00 a night. I am so excited about what I got. I will be there for 15 nights. i also have all of my new confirmation numbers as well.

Maybe it is worth a try for those of you who will be there for the Holidays, to go ahead and make that call. Oh, I also said to the CA, well maybe I should just cancell my trip.... I said Geeze Disney sure is going to loose alot of money from me, with shopping, eating in the parks, the dinner show's etc. That all adds up. The special dept. did tell me that they are starting to run out of rooms to offer fot the Thanksgiving holiday. I would push on Disney "NOW" to make your Holiday ressie's.

So really, I am impressed at the first happy ending I've seen with this situation. Since you're new I thought I'd spare you the search for the thread.

To be honest, I would probably have your significant other make a res at the preferred alternative (via a means with a reasonable cancellation policy!) and keep your current reservation. If you don't like the offer Disney makes you have a fallback. If you do like the offer, cancel the other. Either way you're covered for a situation that you didn't cause.

Good luck!

We were offered 3 basic options - stay in a moderate (PO) for the same price, upgrade to AKL standard for $10 more a night or upgrade to either AKL Savannah or Poly. standard for $20 a night. We decided to call after seeing some others success. We are staying at the Polynesian for $109 a night for 11 nights.

Hearing that you were given the option of the Poly (the only delux we were really considering) for such a great price just confirms my decision that my travel agent is an idiot. I called her yesterday to warn her of the CBR closing (at which we are or were scheduled to spend 10 days for our honeymoon) and that she should wait for their call. I also told her if they offered an upgrade to take it especially if it was the poly. So what does she do but imidiately call and transfer our ressies to another moderate, thereby dissmissing us from the possible upgrades even though I specifically told her to wait. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally happy for all of you who are going to benifit from this, I think it's great. I just wish my agent had listened to me (I didn't have one at all) because this whole thing just puts a major damper on my honeymoon. :( Congrats to those who are able to make changes to please them and good luck to those of you still waiting.

wareagle.. at the risk of sounding really dumb... $20 extra a night or $20 per person/ per night? My CBR package through Delta Vacations was a really good deal, that it wasn't worth changing for the codes which came out recently

So I'm just wondering if I should budget an extra $40 or an extra $80???

thanks for your help and Good Luck everyone... we'll be fine, the phone calls have started and it looks like a lot of families are transferring over to POR themselves.

thats awesome news!
what a Magical Thanksgiving holiday you will have :)

Laura :D

I made the call this morning - we are staying at the POLY for $121 a night with tax!!!!!! Had no problem making the switch!!
What a GREAT Anniversay treat!!!! :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Now I'm scared again. My vacation starts in just over a month and we still haven't heard anything!

Don't worry, Princess_Aurora. They haven't called me or my agent yet either and my vacation begins in 38 days. Everyone on this thread called them first. If you choose to go the sit tight route (probably the better choice for the low demand period of September), its going to take a little longer. I am hoping to hear something within a few days.

I'm jumpy about this too, but I am trying to assume the best until Disney gives me a reason to do otherwise.

<center>:bounce: So happy to hear all this great news :bounce:

Disney has put at lot of smiles on a lot of faces. Great up-grades. Enjoy you vacations. :)

Okay, I was okay with all of this and now I am freaked out! I don't know whether to call or wait to be called. I check in on Dec. 2 for 5 nights so it will be a while before they call us. I have two rooms booked. I am now worried about resorts filling up and missing out on a possible upgrade, what woud you Disney experts advise me to do- wait or call?

UPDATE

Just got off the phone with CRO and now they are talking about CBR not opening until just before Christmas. POFQ was full for my dates and she tried to give me POR w/waterview and king bed, but FOR $20 MORE PER NIGHT!!!! I told her no way!!! I asked about AKL upgrade which she said she couldn't do and I'd have to wait for a call back later on. THIS IS SOOO FRUSTRATING!!! :(

Sorry, just had to get this off my chest!!!

Jenfur ...

I'm with you. I was all set to "sit tight" and let the upgrades come to me. Now, people are getting the Poly for $109 by calling. I guess ... we could call and feel CRO out about things and then tell them to leave the reservation alone if nothing good is offered.

sigh

Barb: I am not affected by this, but I am wondering if CRO has their act together. (I know, I know -- don't get people started about THAT topic! ;) )

Anyway, I just saw this post: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=245073

I also recall reading another person indicating that they called CRO and were offered the Poly for something like $10 more a night.

It just makes me wonder what is going on. Certainly Disney should have been much more pro-active about this -- since this could become a PR nightmare. Even more so now, they should ensure that everyone working at CRO is aware of what they can offer as far as upgrades, prices, etc.

I know that someone said that Disney Management and Logic got a divorce in the mid-90's, but maybe it's time for a reconciliation!
