When we were there Thanksgiving week we saw a little bunny hopping along
when we walked through. So Cute

We had bunnies outside our room all the time! The kids even went on a "bunny hunt" with their flashlights in the evenings. Too much fun! I saw some odd birds on the beach near OPR and the pool, not much on the island, though.

I haven't read through this whole thread, but can someone tell me.....

Is it really as massive as it looks, this resort??

It looks like you would need to take a shuttle from some of the sections to the food court! Just how far is it? If you are staying at the rooms farthest away, about how many minutes would it take for you to get to the food court?

thanks!

We were in the farthest Aruba building (see my trip report link below) and I was very nervous about the walk. But it turned out to be no problem at all, even with a 5 and 7 year old. The walk took maybe 5 minutes and was beautiful. We saw tons of little critters (ducks, birds, bunnies, etc) along the way, which made it fun, too. I was very pleasantly surprised with CBR and would absolutely stay there again.

Trinidad South is the farthest village from Old Port Royale. Since I know that the promenade around Barefoot Bay (the lake) is 1.4 miles, I'm judging that the distance between OPR and Trinidad South is about a half mile. If you walk at a slow pace of 2 miles per hour, that walk could take 15 minutes.

When I last stayed at CBR, I paid for preferred lcoation and had room 3340 in Trinidad North, which was about as far as you can get from OPR but still be in a preferred location room. That walk to OPR was about 5 minutes.

Safetymom asked me to copy this report I did onto this thread so here goes:

My family of four, me, dh, ds12, dd10 returned from 9 nights at CBR. Our dates were the 14th to the 23rd. What a great resort. Its huge but we love that (loved it with CSR and POR too and missed it at POFQ). The large nature of CBR just made us feel even more like we were in the Caribbean. We were in Barbados, Bldg 16, room 1630. I really love having a first floor room, I learned that from our first floor stay at CSR and how nice that is. The resort is so quiet! We would hear people walking a bit in front of our room but not the usual toilet flushing etc. The food court was fine, I didn't like it quite as much as POR's (never ate at the Pepper Market so no comparison). The main pool was very nice but my kids thought the slide was not as good. But the quiet pools, esp. the one in Martinique were wonderful. Due to the warm weather and crowded parks we spent a good deal of time swimming. We were conveniently located between two quiet pools and the water was nice and warm at both of those as well as the main pool. The pool areas were very clean as were the laundry rooms and other common areas. Our room was really nice, we had great mousekeeping, the beds were comfy and again this was the quietest of any Disney resort I have stayed at. The staff was wonderful. The grounds and the lake were so nice, of course this makes for some sweet if not painful memories since we live in Colorado and have over two feet of snow still in our front yard with another 12 inches coming tomorrow!

The highlights of CBR for my family:
Bus service. The best we have ever had. I think a lot of people must rent cars or have their own. The resort is huge, it seemed full but the bus ques were always the shortest. We stood many times but never had to wait for another bus. The internal buses seemed to run very regularly. We didn't use them since we enjoyed the walking. I always think bus service at WDW is a gamble but this time we were winners.

Shutters. Our last day we decided to cancel our ADR at the Plaza to spend less time eating in MK and more time riding. So I changed that last ADR/Dining Credit to Shutters for a late dinner for convenience. I had no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Really good food, a bit noisy but excellent service. I would eat here again in a minute.

Room. Of all the moderates this room size and layout really fit our needs. The beds are nice and high up so all of our suitcases fit nice and easy under the bed. The double sinks were nice and I liked the counter set up better than the pedestal sinks at POR and POFQ. Also the room seemed bigger, normally I don't think the mods feel much bigger in room size than the values but this one seemed larger and more spacious.

Theming: The grounds, the pretty building exteriors (Jamaica bldgs were really pretty, I loved those) and just the overall theming really did it for us. And the lake was great.

Location: This resort seems very centralized. It was great to be able to see Spaceship Earth and from the bridge that connects the Old Port Royale/Main Pool to across the lake is the perfect place to watch Illuminations. We did that one night and we could even hear the music we were that close. Even from our great room location at BWV last year we did not have that great of a view of Illuminations.

I hope this might help anyone planning a stay at this resort. We have enjoyed varying levels of great stays at all of the WDW resorts we have stayed at. But CBR ties with SSR for my family's favorite. I would and will stay here again and would highly recommned it to anyone

No exotic birds any more. It is just a beautifully landscaped island with hammocks, benches, etc.

Bummer about the birds being gone! I was looking forward to seeing them again. Maybe they've all gone to Animal Kingdom. I haven't stayed at CBR since about 11 years ago. At that time we only had 2 kids so could stay there as a family of four. We absolutely loved it! Later that year DD(11) came along so we've had to stay in rooms that sleep 5. We've stayed several times at POR, once at CR and once a BWI. Loved them all. In APril my DD(15)'s high school band is going on a trip to WDW and marchingin the MK parade:woohoo: :woohoo: ! She'll be staying at ASMusic with the band so we can get 1 room for DH, DD(13) DD(11) and myself so we're back to CBR. I'm getting really excited after reading through this thread and seeing all of your wonderful pictures. This is the first resort we ever stayed at "on site" so it has a special place in my heart and mind!.. We'll be there March 31 - April 7. Anyone else? We booked a preferred room. I've never done that before, but when we stayed at POR in Sept/Oct this year we were so far from the Main building that it wasn't worth it to go for the refills on our mugs. My kids are old enough for a short walk to Port Royale without me or DH but don't like them going to far on their own, so figure it's worth the extra $$$$.

I am thinking about eating an early breakfast 7am before the park opens at Spoodles. What is the best way to get to the Boardwalk from CBR?

I agree with CleveRocks,

at such an early hour going anywhere, take a taxi. Last year we had ADR's at 8 (not so early I thought) for Cape May, and took the bus to the park with EMH.... well getting to the park was fine, but they didn't have busses running back to the resorts yet, so we ended up getting a taxi.... so anwhere before 9 I would take a taxi. Have a good trip.

Did I read correct? Is the CBR pool closed until June?

Edit: I went back and reread the post. It says Jan to June of 2008

Hi all -
Much as I LOVED POR in Dec., I'd like a different ambience when it's warmer, so I'm looking at CBR for the first week of May 2007.

It's been a long time since I stayed there - how are things these days? Especially mousekeeping and room "freshness"?

Also, I'm thinking to request Jamaica or Martinique, as I'd like decent proximity to the main pool, a quiet pool, playground, and parking. (Whew!) Any suggestions for room locations?

Thanks!

I'm sure this has been answered before, but how do the preferred rates work here? Am I correct in understanding that you can pay the same preferred rate for one of the buildings closer to OPR or a water view in any of the other buildings? Can you get a water view AND the preferred location or is that just random assigning? Thanks. I keep trying to talk DH into the Poly, but we are way too financially strapped for him to agree (keeping fingers crossed for a big check from Uncle Sam, though). Every time I start getting depressed thinking we won't be able to swing the price of the Poly, I come and look at all that CBR has to offer. I'm pretty sure we would be overjoyed to spend our vacation there as well. Considering this will be our first time on-site and the first trip ever for the kids I think we would be happy spending the night in the car at the TTC.:rotfl2: Hopefully, it won't come to that, though. It is hard to justify all the money just for the room at Poly when we could get a preferred room AND the DDP at CBR for a hole lot less. Even if we could do Poly, we'd be packing our illegal peanut butter sandwiches into the park each day because we couldn't afford the food. So, long story short, I think we will be at CBR in late Sept and lovin' it! And, maybe we'll get really lucky and they'll do free dining again.

We stayed at CBR and I have visited the Poly for lunch and I would say unless the rooms are twice as big; which I know they are not I would save the money and go for a Mod. CBR is nice, in fact all the Mods are nice. The upgrade from Mod to Deluxe I feel isn't worth it. The Poly is a very beatiful resort however but its more than twice as much. In 2006 we did, POR for 5 days, SOG for 4 and CBR for 7 at differnent times. I have never paid over $125 a day for any one resort.

You can't pay for water view and preferred. You could get a water view room in a preferred building. The water view isn't worth paying for though. Once you are seated in your room it is very hard to see the water from your window. Also a water view could be a view of a pool.

Water view is an extra $15-$20 per night. Preferred location (any room in Martinique buildings 24-25-26 and Trinidad North 31-32-33) is an extra $15-$20 per night. Believe it or not, Disney will not ALLOW you to pay an extra $30-$40 per night to guarantee a water view room in a preferred location building.

A CM told me to pick whichever one I wanted to guarantee and reserve and pay for that, and then put in a request for the other.

I strongly agree with safetymom, water view in any of the moderate resorts isn;t worth the extra cost. Your window faces onto the exterior corridor. Between your window and the water you want to view, there are people walking by. So if your curtains are wide open so you can enjoy your view, everybody walking by has a great view of YOU.

I have twins who are 3 and a 2 year old. We are planning on having them try to nap during the afternoon. Is there anywhere in particular that we should avoid because of noise or any other issues?

thanks
karen

I don't think you will find a noisy building in CBR. Unless people are making a lot of noise in a pool and you have a view of the pool you will be fine.
