Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

Pardon me for asking this question if it has been answered....

I saw in posts from 2004 that refrigerators were being put in CBR rooms. Do they all have refrigerators now?

Also DD5 and DS5 swim with vests - Do they have vests at the pool. I don't mind bringing mine, but they are bulky.

Mini-fridges are standard in all the moderate resorts, so yes, all CBR rooms are equipped with a fridge.

There are vests that you can get at the marina but I don't know how small they would go.

Thanks. Maybe I should price some little vests at the end of summer. We are planning to rent one of those little speed boats. Are vests a requirement for taking out a little boat?

? for safetymom, I will be there this July with DTS just wondering how firm are the mattresses.

Safetymom or anyone else....

Leaving for CBR this Monday and during a conversation with the kids last night and we were trying to remember all the restaurants at OPR.

Montego Deli
Bay Bakery

That's all I remember.

I know there was a hotdog-burger place, a pizza place, and a pantry. Anyone know the names of those other restaurants.

C'mon guys....help me look smart infront of my kids. :teeth:

Thanks,
N :wave2:

I found this in another post and was wondering if this is true of CBR. I had planned on using luggage services to have our carryons delivered to our room. I thought all I had to do was call them from the park when our room is ready and that they would deliver for us. I did not know that we had to be in the room for that to happen. :confused3 :confused3

"That is a big advantage at the Values, they will deliver and pick up your luggage without you being there, at the moderate and deluxe resorts you have to be there for luggage moves, (except for Magical Express delivery). (That's one thing I never understand why the Values get the best luggage service???)"

We rented a boat at POR last fall with DS2.5 and they had small life jackets and they were mandatory for children. You shouldn't have a problem getting one one at CBR.
Have fun!

Thank you for the info!

We just signed ds up for some swim lessons to get him used to playing in the water. It's a parent/tot program for 8 Saturdays. Sounds like fun.

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I'm gonna ask again. Sorry. Here goes - So is the main purpose of a preferred building to shorten walking time or does it have something to do with the pools or food service?

I'm concerned about the walking time from the bus stop back to our rooms at night. We stayed in the cabins at Fort Wilderness last year and ended up carrying at least one of our children (ages 2 & 4) back from the parks at night, as they would both fall asleep on the buses, and we needed to catch 2 different buses.

We're really excited to be staying at CBR this year, and will not change our reservations. Is a preferred location worth the extra $$$ ?

Preferred location would be to be near Old Port Royale the food court, etc. building. Which probably is only necessary if you plan to eat there frequently and take advantage of the Main Pool (there are smaller pools in each section)

There are 4 bus stops + Old Port Royale bus stop and Custom House (where you check in). Pretty much any building location will have a short walk to one of the bus stops. You could probably request to be as close to a bus stop as possible w/o paying extra if that is your preference. We stayed at POFQ in 04 b/c it was the smallest, so we figured the shortest walk etc. We were on the opposite side of the resort from the ONE bus stop. At CBR last year, our building was VERY close to the bus stop and we were also able to park our car right at the building. Sometimes a bigger resort you can be closer to parking and bus stop b/c of the multiple bus stops. You could look at a map and check out which buildings are closest to bus stops. I know what you mean, after a long day in the park, the last thing you want is a 5+ minute walk back to your room from the bus!

Yes, CBR is big, but no matter where your room is, the one thing you can never be too far from is a bus stop. There are 6 villages (each named for an island), and each village has its own bus stop. There's also a bus stop at Old Port Royale (OPR), the site of the food court/table-service restaurant/main pool/outdoor bar/arcade/gift shops. There's also a bus stop at the Custom House (a separate building where the front desk and Guest Services are), but most people rarely go there except for checking in, etc. The only bus that actually stops at the Custom House is the internal shuttle, a bus that never leaves CBR itself.

So the answer to your question is YES, the only reason to book a preferred location room is to have shorter walks to and from OPR. Nothing more.

So if your only concern is the walking distance between a BUS STOP and your room, then don't waste your money on a preferred location room. But if you're concerned about being a long walk from OPR, then preferred location may be worth it to you. There are numerous spots where it's NOT preferred location (and thus NOT extra $$$) but also not so far away from OPR, such as Aruba and Jamaica and the part of Martinique that's not preferred location.

Here's a link to a CBR map:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/cbrmap.htm

As you can see, the bus stops are marked on the map, as well. The preferred location rooms are all of Trinidad North (Buildings 31, 32 and 33) and half of Martinique (Buildings 24, 25 and 26).

HAVE FUN AT CBR!!!

A preferred location refers to the fact that it is close to Old Port Royale. I wouldn't bother with a water view but I do think a preferred location is worth the money. As the other poster mentioned Jamaica and Aruba are a short walk across the bridge. I don't think the walk is bad from anywhere personally unless you are in Trinidad South and that is like its own resort.

I have the map they give you at check in on my website listed below.

Does anyone know when this resort was last refurbished?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!

ETA: Found my answer! Also saw that mouseplanet talked about another renovation :confused3 - any truth to this?

It was refurbished and reopening Dec 2002. They closed the resort when they did it. It's probably about time for another touch up.

I know this is going to sound like a really dumb question, but are the bathrooms equipped with bathtubs or showers only? The only reason I ask, is that my kids freak out at the idea of a shower. What fun we had when we took them on a cruise. :rolleyes1

Where are the handicap accessible rooms located? Are they in one part of the resort or are they all over? I was curious about the prefered area and aruba.
Thanks.

They have bathtubs unless you are in a handicapped room. Chances are quite high you will have a bathtub.
