Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

Sorry if these are repeat questions, I've read about 150+ pages thus far.
2 questions:

1. I know you can't swim in the lake. Can kids still play in the shallow water to fill sand buckets and get a bit wet??? Where do they draw the line?

2. We aren't going to spend $ on a preferred room, so I'm thinking I'll ask for Jamaica 44 or 45, Aruba 51 or Martinique 22. I anticipate us using the beach areas in the afternoon. I prefer to face the water (i.e. watch the children) while facing the sun. Are either of these 3 beaches better for facing INTO the sun on the beach in the afternoon? (I hope that makes sense)
If I read the map correctly, I would expect Martinique's beach to be better b/c it faces south??

(we'll be there in May)

Thanks for the great FAQ thread!!!

You cannot go into the water at all - not even to get a bit wet or to fill buckets. The water is not safe for swimming, so I wouldn't want my kids filling their buckets with it to make sand castles.

Yes, that makes sense. Here's a photo of from outside of Martinique 2549 -- different building, but facing the same direction as the Martinique beach -- you can see the late afternoon sun shining down....

The only beach that seems to fit your needs here is Barbados ... it faces south, and is the only one that does so. Martinique faces west (as Catbertdave showed you), which explains why it had full sun in late afternoon. Trinidad South's beach faces west just like Martinique's does, but Trinidad South will be comprised of pirate rooms which will cost more per night, and since you said you won't spend the extra $ on preferred location I doubt you'll decide to spend extra $ on a themed room. And Trinidad North's beach faces pretty much west, but again, it's a preferred location village.

So the only thing you have left is Barbados.

As for where "they" draw the line ... it's really up to you. The prohibition against swimming isn't for preventing drowning as much as it is for preventing illness. There are microbes in the water in most lakes that can make you sick. It's OK to get your feet wet, but you don't want to expose your kids' mucous membranes (eyes, nose mouth) exposed to that nasty water. It's very unlikely they'd have ANY ill-effects from simple wading up to their ankles or even a little further, but kids will be kids, and if they splash a lot or they rough-house and fall into the water, then you're inviting trouble.

Thanks everyone!! I understand the water thing now. I'm just a bit worried that taking the children to the beach and telling them they can play in the sand and make dry sandcastles but not touch or splash the water is a bit like tempting fate and we'll end up agry kids and/or parents. Does anyone find that they avoid the beach all-together to avoid the battle?
Regardless, I am still very much looking forward to our CBR stay. We visit every year but this will be our first mod.

You know, I think it's going to be hard to avoid the beaches... they're all over. Honestly, I think you'll be fine. There's a neat chicken nugget (I think) kids' meal in the food court that comes in a pail with a shovel -- they'll have a blast on the beach! Just keep an eye on them -- I bet you'll be fine. If they want to touch water, there are pools all over the resort!

I think the beaches are part of the charm of the resort -- just think of it, lying in a hammock while your kids play in the sand nearby....

I just came back from CBR on the 16th and the resort was beautiful. Normally I wouldn't mention this, but since we're talking about playing in the water I thought I might "weigh in" on this topic. One day we had severe rain storms, but ventured across the bridge to OPR anyway..on the way we saw an armadillo floating upside down in the water..dead. After the shock:scared1: ... we laughed about whether it might be animatronic! Didn't know Florida had armadillos...thought it was a Texas thing! In any case..don't swim in the water! Perhaps you could fill a few empty drinking water bottles from your room so the kids can make wet sand for sandcastles.

We've stayed deluxe, and we've stayed value, and for our family the mod level is just great! We love having the food court (which the deluxes really don't) and we love having all the extra activities (boat rentals, hammocks on beaches, etc.) which the values really don't. We're not big TS people, so the food court is great for us and we think the choices are good and there's a great variety!

I am booked at the CBR to go in March. I keep calling back to see if there is a preferred location open. Do you think I have a chance??? :confused3

There's always a chance! We've been fortunate several times, but it does take persitance in calling. Good luck!! :goodvibes

Thanks!

I think my best bet will be around the 45 day mark. I will keep calling. The CM told me to call daily and preferrably at 7 am. :)

I was originially booked to stay at CBR Nov 13 to 21st, 2009 (surprise trip to DH) esp. after our Nov 2008 stay. I loved the resort and thought DH did too which is why I booked it again as a surprise. Told DH what I had done Christmas Day. Needless to say he doesn't want to stay there. He would rather stay longer at ASMO's. So I will be calling the TA on Friday to change resorts and length of stay. What a bummer but on the bright side we can stay til the 24th. He did say that if we could get a discount like was offered this past Nov that we could upgrade to CBR so here's hoping for GP discount.

So, any news on the Pirate Rooms? Does anyone know when guests will commence staying there? And if guests already are, then what are the reviews? Pictures?

Thanks, we'll be in a pirate room in April!:)

Do you know how much extra they cost? We're booked in POR for early Feb but thinking of switching. thanks :goodvibes

Want to hear something ironic? I was telling my husband about the water...and that it can't be swam in, etc.... then we were watching the new 2009 vacation planning DVD and in the little part about CBR, it showed kids in the water at the beach!!

He said "I thought they can't swim in it?"

I guess they didn't think about that when they made the dvd video!

That reminds me of the time I brought a DCL brochure to work. A coworker pointed out one picture showing the Walt Disney Theater, but it was all adults. Not a single child in the whole place. lol!!

Ok... I am going to WDW - for the first time I add 01-07-09 thru 01-11-09......but....there is a 40% chance of rain slated for Wednesday 01-07-09 (BOO!).
So......just curious for all you advid WDW ers......do you walk around the park like its nothing or do ya carry an umbrella & let it "get to you" or ?????

Staying at CBR 01-07-09 thru 01-11-09 :woohoo:

Take a poncho with you and don't worry about the rain. Rain here can be scattered and not raining on the other side of the park. www.wftv.com is a great local weather station.
