As of May 4th, 2003, the Zone 3 MOD staging area will move from the old area between Riverside and French Quarter, to the Cast Services area at Caribbean Beach.
The average guest will not notice any difference in the service provided, as this is mostly a technical backstage change. Service will still remain every 15 minutes.
So what does this mean for Port Orleans?
Now that French Quarter will be closing, and sections of Riverside will be shut down for renovations, the anticipated demand for buses will be greatly reduced, making the Magic On Demand system no longer needed. Buses will be Flex Dispatched to Port Orleans in the same fashion that Coronado, AK Lodge, and Old Key West recieve buses.
Previously, Caribbean Beach MOD transportation was handled by Zone 4 (Studios). Zone 3 (Epcot) is now taking over that responsibility. Staging area will be set up at the Cast Services area, behind Trinidad South. Previously, staging was at the Studios itself.
Based on demand, and times, buses will be dispatched to start at either Martinique, Jamaica, or Trinidad South. A major benefit of this change is that Dispatchers will be able to respond to Signal 72's (full bus) much quicker than in previous times. One thing to note... chances are, you may see more "SPECIAL" buses than normal. These are buses that are enroute to either the Staging area, or thier start point for thier route.
Since Disney Transport is a highly dynamic operation, tweaking of the new zoning may happen for the first week or two as we adjust to the new area. Also, look for all this to change again when Pop Century opens.
