We usually stay at Deluxe or Values. We really enjoy the Deluxe resorts - who doesn't - but when we don't have the cash for that we generally do Value figuring that the mods didn't offer enough to be worth the price differential.

For DH's bday at the end of October, we bucked tradition and booked two nights at Caribbean Beach and boy am I glad we did.

We showed up for check-in around 11:30 never expecting anything to be ready. Our Front Desk CM - forgot to get his name - was FABULOUS. I feel bad I didn't figure out who he was because he really deserved a praise - maybe I can write to them and they'll figure it out by our account. In any case - check in was a breeze AND our room was ready! We were booked in 4605 in Jamaica - a first floor room with a view of the parking lot - which was just fine for us since it was just two nights. We got our King bed request and it was a "corner" room - meaning our window turned the corner, making the room seem bigger and brighter.

I was thrilled to have artwork of a DCL ship at Castaway Cay on the wall. We love to cruise. I have no idea if this was in every room or just some - but we took it as a good sign.

The room was plenty spacious for two people. We did rearrang the furniture a bit so I could use the laptop on the table. We have our own business and you never quite get time off - but it was easy to use the internet access; the price was not exhorbitant and the connection was great every time I needed it.

The internal busses for the resort ran regularly and I had no troulbe jumping off at the food-getting place (forgetting the name just now) on our way back from AK while DH went on to the room to get a head start on a nap. I picked up what we needed and jumped back on an internal bus and was back at the room in no time at all.

We requested no mousekeeping due to some crazy hours we were keeping and our request was honored. They even left a bag hanging on the door with fresh towels and other sundries in case we needed them.

I will say the service at the quick-serve was anything but - however once we got the food it was cooked properly and tasty - not gourmet by any means, but enjoyable.

So I guess it's time now to visit some other moderates to see what we've been missing!

:cheer2:

I was so excited to read your post! I am taking my first solo trip (kids are actually let me go alone!) and I decided to try CBR. Hope I get a king bed, too! Thanks for your post. Question: Was the hairdryer powerful enough?

I'm glad you enjoyed CBR. It's our favorite. We just got back from the Beach Club and while it was beautiful and convenient to Epcot, I can't see myself paying the rack rate for it. CBR is fine for us and when M.E. pulled into CBR first before it went to our resort, we were like "Aw, CBR" We love those palm trees there.

Question: Was the hairdryer powerful enough?

Sorry - no idea!! I have short hair and just towel dry and go. Didn't touch the dryer.

OH - but I did forget to mention that there was a fridge in the room - which I wasn't expecting. Don't know if that's all the rooms or just the King bed rooms because they're generally set up as Accessible rooms and have a fridge for meds. Although the bath/shower wasn't a roll-in so I don't know.

We requested the king when we booked.

We have done all the MODs and our Fav is POFQ but we have done CBR a few times and do like it as well.

You can get some good rates at the Mods as well.

Question: Was the hairdryer powerful enough?

My mom was a hairdresser for 30 years, and I've always had 'professional' grade hairdryers at home, always looking for the most powerful. I've heard people on here say they didn't like the dryers in the room - but I found them to be great.

Guess it depends who you ask - and could be different in different rooms, but we've stayed at Martinque twice and the dryers were great.

The rooms have the typical hotel hairdryers. I am not a fan of them and I have short hair.

We were staying in Martinique and it had the ship picture on the wall also.

Glad you enjoyed your stay!! CBR is our favorite moderate, and I have no doubt we'll go back and stay there someday.

Adding my two cents to the hairdryer question: DH absolutely has to bring a hairdryer everywhere we go, but after using the one in the room once on our last trip he never took out the one we brought along. And I have long hair, and found it powerful enough for me. :thumbsup2

I can't wait to go. I wanna go now. This will be our first time at a Moderate so excited the only thing I am worried about is how spread out the villages are. But I plan to be in great shape by then and the walking shouldn't be a problem at all. But we have soooo long uggggg

The resort is spread out but you don't have to worry too much. Old Port Royale (food court, marina, store, etc) is in the middle of a 1.4 mile promenade. So, even if you are at the furthest point of the resort, your walk wont' be super bad! The scenery makes the walk well worth it.

Glad to hear you loved CBR! We are planning our first stay there for December 2008 and I'm so excited (I've been wanting to stay there for quite some time, and the fact that Pop Warner will probably be invading the values where we normally stay made my decision for me).

Now I just have to decide if I'm going to book a preferred location and request a king bed or book a king bed and request a specific island. I would love to have both king bed in a preferred location. I can't decide which is more important!

So glad you enjoyed your stay. CBR is our favorite mod and the corner rooms make an already spacious room feel even more roomy =) We paid for waterview and requested a king when we arrived and got both requests. We really enjoyed lounging im the hammocks.

I really think that the Mods are the best "value" onsite.

I heard the main pool wopuld be closed for most of @008. Is this tue. The one thing my family enjoyed was going back to the resort & jumping in the pool when it got too hot.

We booked an AP room for Jan at CBR and are happy to hear you liked it. One of the big advantages to the moderates is being able to book at king bed.

Thanks for your review!
