Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

Just stopping in..... Because we're going back to CBR!!! Our very first Disney trip was in October 2008. We stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort, in Barbados, building 13. This time, we'll most likely be staying in a Pirate room. We'll be there in October, for my 40th birthday. I'm already counting down the days...

I'm glad to hear that you're headed back to the CBR. There's no better place to spend your 40th birthday than at WDW!

We stayed at CBR from 12/16-12/22. We requested Aruba 51 or Jamaica 45 and didn't get either. We ended up in Barbados 16 (1627 and 1628), which is pretty far away from OPR. We consequently only went there a couple times, and we usually drove. We had also requested connecting first floor rooms that were not facing a parking lot. All those requests were met, though I think the interior facing request was a fluke, since I faxed that request in and I am under the impression they no longer accept faxes. It was conveniently located in relation to the parking lots, and there was a courtyard right outside our door, but we had very little down time to enjoy it. We were also near the ice machine. Overall I was happy with our room, but I wish it had been closer to the location I requested when I made the reservations. I didn't ask about moving at check in, so I don't know if that would have helped.

Mousekeeping was great during our stay. We left our connecting doors open all the time, so they treated it as one big room and we tipped them for both rooms and left the tips together on one table. On the second to last day they didn't take the tip, we hadn't placed the little housekeeping card with it so maybe thats why? We lmade sure to leave both days of tips with the card on the last day. I also left a note with some of our decorations and thigns we couldn't fit in luggage (glow sticks etc) saying if they wanted it to please take it, but I am not sure about the rules on that. We also got multiple towel animals.

We only had one experience with the bus system, my son and I took the bus from DHS to CBR one afternoon, and it was empty except 1 other family and we didn't have to wait at all, so it was great.

I liked CBR. However when comparing the cost with Pop with the amenities... I just am not sure the cost difference is justified. Back in 1990, CBR was the low end resort, since the value resorts didn't exist yet. I felt like the $200+ a night we were spending on the room was a little much for what was there. The rooms just feel a little dated, like with the heating/cooling. Instead of a thermostat on the wall like at a newer property like Pop, its one of those big units under the window with the knob. The pool area and foodcourt/shop were nicer than at Pop but since it was too chilly to swim most days that didn't do much for us. If you have a more flexible budget and can afford to stay at a moderate, I think CBR is a lovely resort. If you are unsure as to whether you can swing the cost or if you are having to sacrifice any other portion of your vacation, I'd go with Pop. I can't speak about any other values since I haven't stayed in them but the newly renovated Pop rooms were just as comfortable in my opinion. Oh, except CBR gives you more pillows, which was great because I like having a lot of pillows.

I know some people love CBR more than any other resort, even the deluxes, and it really is a matter of personal opinion. And part of my opinion does come from the fact that I work in a hotel, and I know if we tried to charge $265 a night for that room... we wouldn't sell a lot of rooms. Just my 2 cents!

I suggest next time whenever you stay, if you got some bad location, ask if something else available and even ask if it will become available later in a day. It worked for us once and was worth waiting.

me and my sis will be staying at the CBR come August 2012, ive stayed at the pop century past 2 years..

I didn't see if the coffee pots are the large ones or the smaller ones. Also what is the size of the fridge? Thanks.

Hello,
Are the pirate room beds really that bad?? I have one booked but now I am a little worried!! Any opinions would be greatly appreciated....

DD8 and I will be staying at CBR for the first time at the end of the month. I'm a little concerned about the size, but the resort looks lovely based on the photos I've seen. We're booked in a standard room, and I requested to be as close as possible to the main pool. Should I maybe word that differently? Or be more specific? I know we didn't book a preferred location room, so I won't be upset if we don't get our request, but still, I'd like to give it a shot. Any suggestions?

Off to read as much as I can of this thread now. :)

Im so excited about this site. this will be our 2nd time to WDW our first stay was at the AS Sports. when i booked this time for easter week i seen the pirate room i knew my boys would love it. cant wait for April to get here. i do have a question. we are driving in a was wondering if they had a walmart or store near by to get breakfast stuff at thanks for any info...

They are not looking at room requests until you are standing at the desk checking in. If you want to be close to the main pool I would upgrade to preferred.

Thank you. We'll just take what we get then. We were supposed to be staying at Pop, so it was quite a jump in cost to move up to CBR (+ $425). I don't want to go even more overbudget with preferred (another +$170 I think, with the room only discount). As crazy as the weather's been this year we might need coats instead of swimsuits anyway, lol. :headache:

While it never hurts to ask about moving, try to keep in mind that when you make multiple requests it makes it very hard for all of the to be met. You really limit the number of rooms that will meet your standards. Also, if you do make multiple requests list them in order of importance.

When you think about it, getting 3 our of your 4 requests is pretty darn good!

We are booked at pop with the kids stay free promo added the QSDP. I booked on Monday but Dh thinks we should go back to a modertae. I love LOVE POFQ but I think my young girls will love the pool at CBR. My biggest concern is the QSD. I do think there is alot of option for the QSDP at POFQ. But I'm a little worried about CBR since the menu on allears looks pretty slim. Please tell me there is more to choose from?

If FD comes out for Ocotber we may jsut move our trip up a week. But we pefer the QSDP and just pay OP for a couple of meals.

We have been to both and there are definitely more choices at the CBR food court. There is a lot more than what is listed on the allears menu.

I knew it would be hard to meet all my requests, and I was ok with it, i just wanted to point out that the majority of people who are on these boards end up requesting those two buildings ( I wouldn't be surprised if they were the most requested buildings) so just keep that in mind. Barbados was lovely, and since we had a car the distance from OPR wasn't a big deal.

We'll be at CBR the week before Easter. We can 't wait!!!!!

Safetymom - THANK YOU for this thread, and for the great pictures. I visit often to get my WDW/CBR fix! :goodvibes

We are going the end of April when should I put in my building request? We are in the pirate rooms so I know we will be in Trinidad South but would like to be closer to the food court as possible I think that building is 35 Right?

Is there a King room in Martinique? If so, what room number is it? My DS is getting married in Sept and they want to Honeymoon ar CBR!:cool1:

Are the "water" rooms the same as "preferred"? When I looked online, I didn't see preferred rooms.
