Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

I am looking forward to our return visit in June. I am so glad to hear about the wi-fi. Have they changed the beds yet to queens? I thought I heard somewhere on the podcast that they were doing it, or doing it soon.

There are rooms with King Size beds in every building and in every village. They are "usually" the corner rooms. A room with a King bed is a Room Type and costs extra, just like a preferred location room. So it would take some pixie dust and you would get upgraded to a King.

The rooms, out at the pool and inside OPR has free WiFi. Neighbors of ours just got back from a stay at CBR, in Jamaica and they had a very good signal strength in their room and the common areas.

A king bed is a bookable category at CBR. They aren't always corner rooms.

Thanks for the info. I checked my reservation and it looks like I booked a standard view room, so probably the 2 doubles.

I have never stayed at a WDW resort without my family so I've never looked into king beds but I will say this - it is RIDICULOUS that a king bed room would be an upgraded room. At any other hotel, you can pick two queens or one king for the same price. I know this is Disney and I know things are different but I really am curious at how they justify this being an upgraded room. Stepping off the box now :)

Tink - you are so right! That matches up with advertising Queens at POR AB when the referb is not complete then removing the description and when people said where is my queen the CM trying to tell them it was only a request.

The right way, the wrong way and Disney's way!

Back to the King. They must feel they are loosing money with a King Vs 2 Queens/Fulls thus charging more. We just book the 2 beds that way the better half gets a bed all to herself on vacation.

DS will be 7...so he's not a baby. But I have a set of monitors I still use at the house from time to time when he is sick. I have paid for a perferred room and am hoping to get a room facing the beach/water. DS goes to bed early..so if DH and I want to go sit on a hammack will a baby monitor work? I'm not talking about going to the pool, or going to get drinks...more like some quiet adult time out of the room to chill on the beach. Thanks for letting me know.

We brought a monitor, not knowing if it would come in handy. We ended up with a great corner room close to the courtyard. We tried to use the monitor to just sit out in the courtyard. It was staticky and awful (but we have an older monitor and I bet most would work). It turned out to be moot- we could see our door fromt the courtyard seats, and our almost 6 year old knew just where we were sitting. She came out a few times each night before she fell asleep. It was as close and with more eye contact than at home.

That said, I didn't see any rooms that I would have trusted my own monitor to go out to the beach. There's just not enough eye contact and you'd want to be able to be in the door in seconds should something be wrong. We always play music in the room at home, which we always make sure we can hear over the monitor. That gives us some peace of mind in stretching our legs to garden and do yard work, which is probably as far as the beach in some instances. Still, it's at home. If you have a video monitor and can be in the door in less than 30 seconds, maybe. I think the monitor is, at most, practical for sitting outside your room or in the courtyard if you are close. It's not a big deal though- those surroundings are definitely beautiful and relaxing enough!

I have a question for anyone familiar with staying at CBR. We will be there in September. I was considering renting a toddler bed for my son who will be 35 months old. I really think him sleeping on a regular double size bed is just out of the question becuase of the way he rolls.. and we'd really like to get a king bed for my husband and me.

However, can you tell me where I would be able to put the bed? I was hoping it would fit in the vanity area behind the curtain since my son does better if he thinks he's the only one in the room. Would this be possible. I can't see around the corner in the pictures, but is there room around the corner where you would generally hang clothes (we can do without haning all our clothes, if his bed would fit.

Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks!

We are going to be staying at CBR for the first time this September. It's our first trip to Disneyworld with our 3 kids. They are young and have an early 6:30-7:00 bedtime. We are only going to keep them at the parks late two nights for Fantasmic and the Electrical parade...

Which leads me to our biggest concern - a quiet room. Are most of the rooms anywhere around the resort quiet? Is there anything we could request to help with this? Upstairs vs. downstairs etc. I really think I would rather walk further to the main pool than have cranky kids all week. ;)

For example: Our first time at Disneyland we stayed right at the top of a stairwell and it was miserable with everyone running up and down the stairs from 10pm - 12am getting back from the parks - the kids woke up 3 or 4 times. The next year we asked for a room at the very back of the hotel and had no issues.

Thanks guys-- we are SOOO excited for this resort.

IMO there are no "loud" areas of CBR. This is one of the reasons we like it so much. It is such a nice retreat from the craziness of the parks. We have stayed at CBR when it has been at capacity and it felt like we were the only ones there at night. We have been on the fisrt and second floors and did not notice any difference. The stairways are on the outside of the buildings so there is no echo effect from people walking, or even stomping, on them.

Enjoy!

Are the only drawers in the Nemo rooms the ones where the refrigerator is? Doesn't seem like much drawer space for more than one person…especially when we are going for 2 weeks and don't plan on doing laundry.

There are 5 large drawers in the dresser that also houses the fridge. There is another drawer in the night stand between the beds. There is a very large drawer under the bench in the pic below. The bench drawer is about as big as 2 of the dresser drawers.

There is a long shelf in the bathroom above the hangers also. The cubbies under the sinks are great for tolietries and for some smaller clothes items.

Not sure how many are in your party, but we had stuff for 3 people and had everything in a drawer for an 11-day stay.

Thanks. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. I have some more pics in my mini review post here.

The pics start on page 2.

I wish we could go "home" this year, but alas 2013 it is.

Really enjoyed reading your review and all of your wonderful pictures!! Thanks for sharing and making me even more excitied for my upcoming stay here in 48 days! hahah

Do you or anyone else know if there are change rooms at the main pool area?

You're welcome. Glad you liked them.

Yes, there are changing rooms at the main pool.

Enjoy!

Just came here to dance :cool1:

Convinced DH that we needed an anniversary trip - just the two of us - in May. Will be at CBR 5/4-5/7, and so excited  :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:

I really enjoyed the walk over the bridge to OPR as the sun was coming up! It is really beautiful. I would get up and out first and bring back breakfast for my wife and son every morning. She was thinking it was a burden for me, but I actually looked forward to it every morning![/IMG]

That's exactly what I do on our vacations! One of my favorite things at Disney is to walk around the resort in the early morning, when it's quiet and so beautiful! And, CBR was my absolute favorite place to do this. We were also in Jamaica, and the walk through Caribbean Cay every morning was so gorgeous :thumbsup2

Just got done booking for next month...... my first trip to CBR. I requested preferred to be safe. It will be me and ODS (8) and my father & stepmother. Can't wait!! :cool1:

Will do CSR in June and only wish they would let me do a bounce back at CBR for June 2013. I wish they would do BB for 13 months after your stay instead of in that same calender year. Makes sense to me! I am so looking forward to CBR.

My daughter thinks people like her that go more often (3 times in 18 months and 8 time in the last 4 years) should get some kind of offer for loyalty. She booked Vegas for July but will do WDW in June. Now that is loyalty.

Keep more coming on CBR moderator.

I wouldn't say that they are exactly large drawers. They are ok. I have a family of 4 (you can see by the signature our ages, my kids are not little). And we always bring a closet hanging sweater stacker to put extra stuff. We usually go for 10 days and we pack enough for 2 outfits per day and we wash half way thru. There is no way enough room for 2 weeks without doing laundry for a family, maybe for a couple or one with 1 child. We do take the drawer under the bench and store shoes in there, but this year I'm taking a hanging shoe stacker as well for shoes, so that will free up the bench drawer for us.

You might want to reconsider doing laundry while you're there. It has freed up carrying extra clothes for us.

A few questions for the experts:

1. What's your favorite preferred building?

2. Is there free WiFi now in the rooms?

3. Does the pool still close at 10pm?

Hey, don't I know you? ;)

You do what you think is best for your family and take this with a grain of salt... but if I had to do it over again, I would book a standard room just like before. We were in Jamaica 45 and it was such a quick and pretty walk over to OPR that I personally would never pay the difference for preferred. We really looked forward to our walks over the bridge each day. And this is coming from someone who wants their room to be about 2 feet away from the food court and pool b/c I hate to do a lot of resort walking after the parks have worn me out. Now, having said that, there is never a guarantee that you will get the section you request, so you do have to be willing to take that chance. But if your October trip has the low crowds like mine did, I think you will be able to get what you want.

I would say that the only advantages of staying in Martinique are that you are close to OPR and the OPR bus stop, and you have a great view of Illuminations there. In Jamaica 45, we were right next to the bridge that leads to OPR, but we had a bit of a walk to the bus stop each day. And the night we watched Illuminations from CBR, we had to cross the bridge to see them, so if you were staying in Martinique, you could just watch them from your beach.

All this is just my two cents worth though. And that is truly all it's worth!
