Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

Thanks - I hope I get to stay at CBR too!!

Ah, the ever controversial buses :) The worst was at All Star Movies for me but I also had some pretty long waits and long rides from AKL and Beach Club. In general, I've found it is really hit or miss. You may have just missed a bus or are traveling at a 'peak' time so it is a longer wait and more crowded.

But I am curious - for those that have stayed at CBR and other Disney resorts, how have you felt about the buses compared to your other resort stays?

The way I see it, waiting 20 minutes (and almost always less) for a bus was still better than driving ourselves. We enjoyed napping on the way back to the resort after a long day in the parks. :goodvibes

Personally, it just feels like Murphy's Law working against folks. The bus we wanted was usually the one in demand and would fill at other stops, or would be the bus that very few were running and we'd have to wait (forever it seemed). There's nothing more frustrating than seeing 5 Epcot buses pass by when you're waiting for a DHS bus. :rotfl2:

But honestly, we've had at least one bad experience regardless of the resort we've stayed at, but overall, mostly good experiences. I don't feel buses are better or worse at any particular resort, based on my experiences. :thumbsup2

IF I were to stay at this resort again I would get a rental car. I'm not going to get into details but the there's some systematic flaws at this resort regarding the buses.

We've had nothing but GREAT bus service every time we've been at CBR!! Can't wait to be back this June!!!

I just booked us a Pirate room at CBR for my DS8's Spring Break in mid-March. We are Florida residents and got a deal I could not pass up. I planned to do a cruise this year after last September's stay at the CR but November 2012's US Grand Prix in Austin, TX cut into my vacation budget. I am a Formula 1 junkie and that trip with my 78 year old DF is something I could not pass up; we also attended the inaugural US Grand Prix in Indianapolis back in 1999. This will be our first stay in a moderate and I am looking forward to it...

Would like to have a king-bed room at CBR however it appears we have to pay extra. Does doing so mean we would have a preferred location with this King Bed room?? Which "islands" have the king rooms ??
Thanks!

We were just at CBR this past October and the busses were great.

Thanks!

While we have never stayed at any Disney resort other than the CBR, we have visited quite a few and I have to say that the deluxe resorts had some of the worst bus/travel times.

The longest wait we have ever encountered at the CBR was 35 minutes and that was the time my husband slept in and we went to Hollywood Studios without him. He decided, after lunch, to join us and he had to wait for 35 minutes for a bus to come.

Other than that one time, the buses at the CBR have always run efficiently both to and from the resort. Our travel dates are usually the last week of May through the first week of June. Other times, we traveled early to mid August.

There always seem to be at least one long bus wait, I think it is inevitable! Thanks for the feedback!

We thought CBR buses were pretty good. We only waited more than 20 minutes once in our entire 10 day stay. Most times we waited less than 10 minutes. I didn't mind the multiple stops, because they are so close together.

Oh, interesting to note about the multiple stops - thanks!

We've stayed at Pop century, BWI, The Poly, and CBR. Not surprisingly the Poly had the best transportation. For the most part we had good experinces with CBR and Pop.

Yes, I do love the Poly transportation! It really can't be beat.

We've stayed at CBR twice and didnt think the buses were bad at all. Last time we went to POP and it was the WORST!! Sometimes I wanted to cry it was so bad. We've stayed at all catagories- value- moderate and deluxe and I LOVE CBR (we stay preferred though). I like that the buses drop you off right outside your building too.

Nice, thanks!

We have always had excellent bus service at CBR! :thumbsup2 Best of any and we've also stayed at: POFQ, POR, CSR, OKW, BWI, and the Poly.

Thank you!

So hard to compare since everyone goes at different times of the year and different times of the day to and from the parks.

IF I were to stay at this resort again I would get a rental car. I'm not going to get into details but the there's some systematic flaws at this resort regarding the buses.

I actually would like the details - if you want to share - thanks!

Not necessarily. I believe every section has kings beds sprinkled in them. Most of the time they are corner rooms.

The deciding factor to chose a resort for June is the pool for 11 yr old boy (POFQ or CBR)? How big are the slides at CBR? Is the slide longer at CBR? Please tell me all the great things about the CBR pool area!

While I have never stayed at POFQ, I have seen pictures of their pool slide and I can almost guarantee you that the slides at CBR are better than the POFQ slide. Notice I said slides at CBR and slide at POFQ. There are two pool slides at the CBR main pool. I hope that Momof2disneyboys chimes in here because I believe she has pictures of the slides.

My 14 year old son loves the main pool at the CBR and goes down them lots of times during our trips.

We've stayed at both. The bigger slide at CBR is definitely better than the slide at POFQ. POFQ's slide is longer than the shorter CBR slide, but way slower. DD was 8 when we stayed at CBR last year, and she preferred both CBR slides over the POFQ slide. POFQ's slide is great for beginners. DD loved it when she was 4.

Strictly speaking about pool slides, not taking into consideration theming or anything else, as far as the Mods go, CSR's is the most appealing to kids the age of ours, in general, I think. (My DD is 9 now, and asking to go to CSR.) Then CBR, then POR, with POFQ coming in last.

Question:
Has anyone done the CBR pirate cruise lately? Is it still Sunday, Tuesday, Friday? Is it worth it for a DD10 and DS5 (at time of arrival)?

Would love more information on the CBR pirate cruise... pics, details, reviews. Thanks! :goodvibes

We arrive in a few short weeks...
Since we are from Canada we usually purchase stuff on-line (from places that normally don't ship to Canada)...and have it delivered to our Disney resort.
Has anyone had stuff delivered to this resort? I am assuming it should be like any other time...I just put the usual info in for shipping then it will be waiting when we arrive..right?

As well ...is there free wifi around the resort anywhere?
I read somewhere that there was but not positive.

We booked a preferred room so hopefully we won't be too far from the pool and stuff :upsidedow

Any input is great....thanks

We don't purchase much on-line for our trips but we do order water from Costco and have it shipped to CBR using our name and reservation # and include our arrival date on the shipping information. We've never had any problem at CBR with this. There has never been a fee for the delivery either, but we usually do tip the Bell Svc. person who delivers it to our room. The resorts that charge are the convention resorts. We always book a preferred room at CBR and have never been further than a 3 min. walk from our room to the pool and food court. Have a great time!!!!

Wonderful, so we will be close. I do my online shopping fix before we go each year. There are a lot of store that I would love to order from on a regular basis but they do not ship to Canada or their shipping is VERY high..so I take advantage of it and usually have it shipped to our resort.

Thanks for your answer & Happy New Years !!

I thought I heard they were adding free WiFI in the CBR food court. When I am not sure. There was none in October when we went.

Shipping give yourself plenty of time. I mailed our box two weeks before we went but that was using USPS. The box we mailed to the Dream got there the same week we sent it. The box we sent to the resort never made it until the day after we checked out. It was lost in PA. We had all of our Halloween costumes in there and things like sun lotion, and some FE gifts for the cruise. My boxes cost $15 a piece.

In the to portion, you put the resort name and then C/O, your ressie number and arrival date, and the resort address. I put my home address on the inside of the package. Buy insurance! You never know what's going to happen!
We were on a DCL cruise after the resort and then were staying at the Hyatt MCO so Disney was nice enough to deliver our package there.

We ordered water, soda, bread, snacks, PB, Jelly, and water from Garden Grocer. (along with some alcohol) The service was awesome and it was waiting for us when we arrived.

Caribbean Beach has free wi fi at Shutters, Old Port Royale Food Court, Goombay Games, Calypso Trading Post and the Straw Market. From the first post in the FAQ. :)

I'll be curious to see if the closest Preferred Rooms will be close enough to pick the wifi. We usually book Preferred, the kids like being close to the big pool, so if that's the case, it will be nice. Can't wait to bring my kindle to the pool to read and surf.

We are choosing CBR for our June trip. Making reservations tomorrow! I know it is early but I do have a question. Where is the closest location of Win-Dixie or Publix grocery stores from CBR? We will have rental car. Our arrival day is not going to be a park day so we will have time to buy a few snacks & water.

We usually shop at the Publix grocery store in Kissimmee. It's located near Mile Marker 9 and is just a short ways from the CBR.

We were just there last week and was in preferred and got the wi-fi in my room. As a matter of fact, their were two w-fi signals I could get with strong signals.
