Career Start vs College Program

So I was wondering which one I should choose. It seems like you can still learn while there with the career start and the pay is exactly the same but it seems like to me the only difference is you get a year of work instead of having to wait a semester and then work for like 3-4 months.

Reasons why I am swaying towards Career Start:
I have another year to think about what to do
I work there for a year
I can save up my money for college
I know others doing it

Reasons why I am swaying towards College Program:
I get college credits
Still get paid so I can pay for college

I'm personally going for the college program because if I wait a year, there will be less scholarships and bursaries offered.
And I really don't like the idea of being in debt from student loans.

You get college credits in CareerStart too if you take a small class or something.

and you mentioned this but I'm remind you again.. College program goes to 3 months.. with the Advantage up till 5.

CareerStart is 7 months.. and add Advantage its... like 9 or 10 months lol (haven't confirmed that yet) They're both good though lol

I know you get college credits but you have to be a part of a college to get it...oh and I told my mom and she wants me to do the college program

I've spoken to my mother several times about this, and we've agreed on College Program. But I'll doing it with Ryerson if i do I guess.
I can't afford to go to school in the states, I also, do not want to take the SAT or the ACT or whatever the frig you need.

I would rather do College Program, because you can get a lot more scolerships as an incoming freshman straight out of highschool.

I am going to UCF though, so I am hoping to get a job hopefully at one of the disney hotels, or one of the surrounding chains next summer. I looked into the college program, but it looks pointless for me since I will be living there anyways. Good luck though, it looks like so much fun. I can't wait to get a job there.

Pretty tough choice, but If I was choosing I would choose the College program because when you start it you are getting credits towards something that can help you way down the line.

lol well I have no douht you'll have trouble getting a job at Disney, just don't be picky..

example: say your interviewing for Attractions.. dont just put down the big hot shot rides.. anything applies

but yeah.. I think It depends on where you are in life and what you want to do.. You live in Florida Right? If I were you.. Id do the exact same thing as you (and I mean Exact! lol Hospitality Management is what I want to do too!!)

but I'm coming from Indiana.. so I have to build up Florida Recidency first to pay for UCF so CareerStart would be perfect you know? just depends Tommy

A general term in the College Program (ex: Spring/Fall semester) is about 4-5 months (ex: Jan-May). The advantage program goes for about 7 months (ex: Jan-Aug). Though, you are correct, the Career Start program is about 7 months.

A difference between the two is that the Career Start program only requires you to have graduated high school or to have earned a GED. This program is generally for those who don't go to college.

The College Program requires you to have completed at least a semester of college. I voted for the College Program because I think unless you really can't afford college, waiting to start college would be a poor decision. I'm big on getting an education so I think you should go to college and then apply for the CP.

I do not know too much about the Career Start program, so I will talk about the College Program. With the CP you can earn college credits and take a semester off of college to go down and work for the mouse. Some schools are very supportive of the program - I know my college is - and they will make sure you get everything you need before you go down to FL.

I'm also somewhat biased because I was accepted into the College Program last September and will be traveling down to FL in January. I've gone through a lot of the process of getting involved with the program and after learning everything that I already have, I definitely think it's a great thing to get involved with.

ETA: Both are paid...but not extremely well. The average hourly rate is $6.79...so don't make a decision based on earning money. It's about the experience because earning money will likely not happen as much as you think it may.

I don't know if, personally, I would do either. I think I'll probably just live at home or go to school somewhere close and cheap and just get a job.

Yeah, you stay in apartments like you do in the CP. You would stay in the same ones, Vista Way, Chatham, or the newest one, Patterson. The main difference with the Career Start from the CP is to get your feet wet in what it's like to have a job and to give the participants an idea of what it's like to work in the real world. If you plan to go to college after, then you earn credits much like an AP class in high school would give you.

Both the CS and the CP are great programs. It just depends what you're looking for. If you're college-bound, do the CP. If you're planning on waiting for college or not going to college, do the CS. But don't do either of them as a way to earn money. If you want to earn money, just find a job closer to where you live. Like I said...at $6.79 an hour...money will not be earned really that much at all. In both programs you have to pay for rent and food...and it goes without saying you will want to spend money in Disney lol.

I currently make more money here in my part time job.
But that's irrelevant, I want to do the program because.. well I want to work for Disney obviously

Minimum wage in MA is $8...no matter where I work, I will be making more money than I will be in Disney. lol.

I'm doing the program because for one thing, I'm a HUGE Disney fan lol. Working there is like a dream come true for me. And really it's all about the experience - networking, talking to people in the Disney company, being independent, dealing with complex situations, engaging yourself with the public people (this applies more if you have an on-stage role) and working under one of the world's leading companies. It builds up an amazing resume because any employer who doesn't know Disney lives under a rock lol.

Lol that's what I keep telling my non-Disney-loving friends when they ask "Why would you travel all the way down to FL to work for bad pay?" lol. They just don't understand
