Cards instead of bands

I bought our tickets from UT about two months ago and when they arrived they were the cards instead of the bands. Is this normal? Will we have to exchange for bands when we arrive?

It's my understanding you get the bands when you book thru Disney (resort guest). I read somewhere you can buy them for $15. If you're staying on property then I'm sure you can switch them over at check-in for free. They'll be gray instead of having a color choice.

You don't need bands. The cards work exactly the same. Disney on-suite guests get them for free.

If you're off-site you have to PAY DISNEY in order for them to track you around the park.

They're pretty tacky looking anyway, i'll be using the cards.

We also have UT tickets (cards), I just added them in MDE to our upcoming trip and chose all of our band colors. I think those cards are essentially added to the bands, not sure if the cards can be used afterward.
