Hello! I am realizing today that my body does not like carbs. Last night we went to a friend's house for dinner the main course was spaghetti with Meatballs, dessert was cake, and bread was the side item. Obviously this was not a haven for a low-carber like myself. So I ate and enjoyed knowing that I would have to make up for it later. One night of WAY over indulging and here are the differences I feel:

1. Bloated - oh my goodness I am bloated. The scale says my loss of 9 lbs has not changed however my "big" jeans are tight.

2. Restless sleep - I could not get comfortable last night. I avoided caffine so I cannot blame it on that.

3. In the 3.5 weeks I've been low-carbing I have not once gotten up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Last night I got up twice. In case you don't know it frequent visits to the restroom at night are a sign of diabetes. Evidently my isulin levels were out of whack last night.

4. Sluggish - I feel like a big blob just sitting at my desk. I didn't notice how much more energy I had until I lost it. Plus I am a bit moody today but that might have something to do with lack of sleep. Now after lunch filled with protein I am starting to feel more awake.

As you can see just one night over going way over in carbs did a lot of damage to the system. I am happy to report I haven't had many carb cravings today but it is early. I'm drinking lots and lots of water and sticking to my 30 carbs for the day. I can't wait for this period to be over because I miss having energy.

septbride: I know what you are saying!! I am glad to see your post, because I noticed since starting Atkins in June, I have not been bloated, restless, and my energy has been high, there is a zip to my step! I went "off" plan around Christmas, and re-joined Induction on New Years Day, and got back on plan. I noticed immediately the difference!!
Speaking of sleeping, my DH tells me since starting Atkins, my "moaning" in my sleep has gone away!!! I have done this all of my life, and to see it go away, is wonderful!! Why, I don't know, just happy to see it gone!!
Congrats on being "in tune" with your body!! It will bring you success to your goals!!:sunny:

Amanda, I feel just like you described when I go way overboard on carbs - I call it a "carb hangover"!! :p It does pass but drinking water and exercising help you get over it quicker.

I also get my old acid reflux problem back - that's why I keep coming back to low-carb. It's the only way of eating that gets rid of my acid reflux. I really feel like low-carb is the way of eating that keeps my body happiest. That may not be true for everyone, but I've experimented enough that I know it's true for me.

Amanda, you just described me before I started SBD. I could NOT fall asleep at night. I was about to see a sleep specialist - now I sleep like a baby and wake well rested. I also snored so bad poor DH didn't know what to do. I am happy to report I have not snored (significantly) in the past 2 months. DH is thrilled and so am I.

I always felt bloated and heavy on my feet - now I feel so light on my feet, I love the feeling and haven't had swollen ankles either.

I love the energy I have since I gave up all those bad carbs including not needing naps in the afternoons on the weekends and not having that sleepy feeling every afternoon.

I also have noticed a difference in my attitude. I am much more tolerant of other peole and don't fly off the handle as much as I did before.

Some people just can't take bad carbs. I have learned I am one of them.

Hi everyone... I was wondering if you would share with me what Good Carbs and Bad Carbs really are... I'm just trying to incorporate low carbs in my daily diet, but not sure which ones to avoid and how much should I eat to lose weight... how many grams of carbs should I eat and what are net grams and how do you figure that out... Sorry for so many questions... Thanks... Hugs to all... :grouphug:
