is going off but I have no gas appliances or gas heat. It also was going off all day Sunday until we opened windows.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

Oh, Sunday it was in the dining room. We moved it upstairs in the hall outside of our bedrooms Sunday night and that is where it is now.

TO be totally honest I would be out of the house and calling someone (fire department maybe?) to come and look and find the issue. If opening the windows cleared it up and then later moving it to a higher level and now that is an issue it indicates that the alarm is not malfunctioning and that their is an issue.

Please be careful.

Why do you have an alarm? I would guess you have it because something you own could emit carbon monoxide, right? So whatever that something is is probably the issue.

I have it because I used to have gas heat and stove. When I moved I figured I might as well keep it plugged in and in use.

There are 3 levels: Green-good Yellow-Warning Red-Alarm. When it beeps it is yellow.

OK, I guess with yellow you have time to figure it out--but personally I would be keeping the windows open and really keeping an eye out.

DO you have a pilot light on your water heater? I have also heard about some paints or paint thinners or some such whose use can lead to a build up--I'll have to google to figure out what it was. Are you doing any home renovations?

Carbon monoxide detectors usually have batteries so they continue to work if the power goes out.

Mine will go off when the battery needs changing. Check yours for that.

Is it a First Alert? They have ones that are green for good, yellow is service, and red is alarm.

But to be safe I'd get out of the house and check the owner's manual while outside.

We had the same issue a while back...
How old are they? If you know the brand and model, you can look up on their website how long the warranty is for. If they are more than 2-3 yrs old, they probably just need replacing.

However, it is good to call your gas co. just to be safe and make sure everything is ok.

Good luck!

Have you been painting, using spray cans of any kind lately? Sometimes the fumes from these types of things can set it off and once a CO detector has been set off it should be replaced because of the sensor or something won't work properly. I know our kids were using that spray hair paint stuff once and it triggered our CO detectors.

we had a Kidde one..8 years old..started beeping for no reason..called company..they said replace it..we did..problem solved..good luck!

Get out of the house and call the FD!!!!!!!!

We do not have gas either but our oil burner set it off this year. Our home was filled with CO2. The FD came and said the levels were through the roof. We were extremely lucky. I don't even want to think about what could have happened. They don't only go off with gas.

Ours went off last winter because I had to turn the car twice to get it to start after not driving for a few days during a winter storm. The FD said that trying to start the car twice, backing out of the garage and then closing the garage door immediately trapped just enough co. When I got home a half hour later and opened the door to go into the house from the garage the co got into the house and set off the alarms. (I also don't have gas applieances, furnaces, etc.) They said a woodburning stove/fireplace/firepit outside can also be sources.

Good news! It was going off to warn us that it was bad and needed replaced. New one is plugged in and not a peep since!

MHM, glad everything turned out ok. Sounds scary!
