Hi Everyone:
We usually rent a mini-van when we have our 2 grandchildren and son and dil with us. However, we are going with our other son, dil and 21 month old gd and was wondering if there was something other than the mini-van that would work. The mini-vans are in such high demand the prices keep getting higher so we were wondering about a full size car and if that would give us enough room. Basically we will be going to the parks and over to the Outlets, etc. - no long trips. Any input would be great.
Thank you.

Unless you are very large adults, I would think you could get by with a mid-size car.

Now if you are arriving with a lot of luggage, some of you could ride the DME to the resort.

My DH and I are riding the DME to the resort and then renting a car at the Disney Car Care Center. That way we don't have to worry about the luggage upon arrival.

Just for driving, though, I think a mid-size car is big enough for 4 adults and a child.

Hi:
My son actually has a mid-size car and although we aren't large adults - it is a bit tight because of the car seat. I just wondered if the full size gave a little more room in the back.

The last time we travelled we rented a full size (impala). For some of the trip we had two carseats and for some we had three (my oldest often rode with my parents). Three across fit, and we also had the two carseats side by side (one rear facing, one forward) and I could sit in the remaining seat.

In the past I've travelled long distances sitting in the back seat with the carseat in the middle, and the main problem was shoulder space. If your granddaughter is within the limits of the carseat to rear face, you'll be absolutely fine because that opens up the shoulder space. If she must be forward facing, I don't know if a full size would give enough extra shoulder room to make a big difference (I was sitting beside the rear facing carseat).

I'd stick with the mid size and put her rear facing, if at all possible. (most carseats rear face to at least 30 pounds, some until 40, as long as there's an inch of shell above the child's head).

The car seat does make it tight in the back seat but doable especially if 2 ladies will be sitting with the baby. Seating isn't as much as an issue as luggage..check trunk size on some of the cars you plan to rent as some are incredibly huge and others not so much.

Thanks Michelle:

We will be fine on luggage because we arrive a week before them and we use the free service that is provided at OKW for us to check our luggage at OKW the day of departure and they take it to the airport. Otherwise, we definitely would have needed a mini-van just to transport the luggage back to the airport.
