For anyone that has hired a town car service from the airport, I am trying to get a sense of how much to tip the driver? We must pay our return trip when we get picked up, but I am told we may have a different drive for both legs so the tips should be for one way only. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

We've always tipped 10% each way, just in case there's a different driver. If a particular driver is wonderful, then we'll tip a little more.

We've used a car service several times. We usually tip about $10+ each way, which ends up being about 18-20%. Sometimes we tip more if we have a lot of luggage and packages.

tipping.org lists that a tip for a limo driver would be 20% of the bill.

Since you are not sure if you have the same driver both directions, you would divide the 20% by the number of legs of your trip. So it would be 10% each way.

The service that I use has always given me excellent service, so I always tip the driver a little more than the 10%. I also receive a discount, but I base my tip on what the service would be without the discount.

I tipped $35 on the 1st leg & $40 on the return. The driver was great. The charge for the trip was $180. So it was about a 39% tip & well deserved.

So far, we have always had the same driver both ways. Not sure why, but that's how it has worked out. However, we always tip 20% of the whole amount...usually comes to about $25. We tip $15 one way and $10 the other. Sometimes more if the driver was exceptional, but that hasn't happened very often.
