We are travelling to Chicago for a family wedding before heading down on an internal flight to Orlando. In the past we hired a 2nd stage car seat along with our hire car. As we need to take a cab from the airport in Chicago to our hotel I am this time thinking about taking our own seat with us (our son will be 15 months) as I can't guarantee that the cab firm will have one :scared1:. This will also mean that we don't have to muck about with a hire car seat at Orlando that has no instructions for fitting:confused3

Has anybody else done this? If so did the car seat arrive in one piece and how much does it cost to put it in the hold?
Thanks for all of your help

We took a car seat to Chicago without a problem. We were not charged anything to put it in the hold & it travelled without any damage!

We took our own as we were using a hire car & also travelling ina friends car who didn't have a seat.

Enjoy your trip:)

I don't think you get charged for car seats.

when you check them in I think you have to take them to the oversized luggage area so I guess they handle them more carefully. I always put mine in a clear bag so that it can be seen and then hopefull more care will be taken with it.

Thanks for the replies. From what you have both said I think we will take our own as in the past the car seat we had was filthy and it took DH over half an hour to fit as it came with no instructions.
