I've read a lot about taking taxis to beaches on Grand Cayman and Cozumel, and am interested in doing that. However we will be traveling with DS (4) and DS (3) and wonder about car seats in the taxis. Obviously the islands don't need to comply with the US safety rules, but just thought I'd find out what the situation is. When DH and I took a taxi in Barbados-- I'm no so sure I would have wanted small children on my lap during that wild ride!
:teeth:

Neither island is as twisty, turny, hilly as Barbados. We've always either held DD in our lap, or sat her in the middle between us. The driving/riding is really no worse than in some major US cities. I wouldn't worry.

I disagree. It is NEVER safe to have a child not properly restrained in a car. My DS will be 2 1/2 when we sail and I have been worried about carseats as well. I remember on our honeymoon in St. Thomas and St. Martin the taxis drove crazy and I was scared to death !!!! However, thanks to these boards, I am ordering a portable car seat. Its by One Step Ahead and is called a Tote 'n Go Portable Carseat. It folds up and can fit in a diaper bag/tote bag. It meets all automobile stardards for kids from 25 to 40 lbs. It sells for $30.
