Car seats and taxis

I'm just wondering whether we need to take a carseat with us for DS (18months) when we go in January? We don't need one on the buses but what if we want to take a taxi somewhere?

Anyone got any experience?

We took DD in a taxi in september at 15mths old and didn't need a seat - she sat on my lap.

We were only going a couple of miles - I wouldn't have gone much further like that though.

If you use Mears you can request a taxi with a car seat in it.
