Flying in the night before our first cruise in March and taking a car seat for my 2yo. Will the Hyatt at the airport store it for us during the cruise and we can get it back before our return flight home? We may inquire about a day use room at the hotel and take a later flight out so not sure if that will matter.

Are you only bringing the car seat for the plane ride? If so, you might consider using something like this instead, and leaving the car seat behind. :)

It would be just for the plane ride. I am thinking about comfort as well. I would think she might be able to sleep in that as well. Heck of a lot smaller than a convertible car seat for sure!

I’ve found car seats on planes can be trouble. Besides the effort of hauling them through the airport they put your two year old child’s legs in easy reach
Of the seat in front of them. And they kick. Repeatedly.

As for safety... side impact protection isn’t what you need. I’d do either a cares harness or just a seatbelt. Your main safety concern is turbulence.

The CARES harness is great! And it allows the child to use the tray for coloring and snacks.

We have always used car seats on planes for our kids when age 2-3...not for safety, but so that our kids would stay put! And it makes sleep easier. It mimics the car, so reduces the "wow! I want to walk up and down the aisles the whole flight!" We split up our family and put one of our family members in the seat in front of the car seat so we aren't annoying other passengers.

As for what to do with the car seat on the cruise - we just put it in the closet. Most recently we had 5 in one room and still had room to store the car seat. Also we have one of those roller wheel handle attachment thingys, so the car seat doubled as a stroller in the airport and at the port.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much...things to think about. That wheel thing sounds great...no stroller either.

CARES is great for planes.

Check their website for age and size requirements.

If appropriate for your kids age and size, it really is a no brainer to get one instead of lugging a car seat

I looked at your location; it can't be that long of a flight to MCO, can it? Is the flight hitting her nap time?

We used the convertible seat for awhile, but when one day our flight was cancelled when we were at the gate and we were shunted to a nearly full flight and I just couldn't handle the idea of installing the roundabout and gate checked instead, my son did soooooo well with just the seatbelt I wished I'd done that the year before. Now, he was already 2, not nearing 2, so that's different, but he did really well. And that was a west coast flight, similar to your east coast flight.

My son fought the carseat all the time, but seemed to really understand that the seatbelt was going to be ON, and that he needed to be a big boy or the next flight we'd bring the convertible again. He rose to my expectation, much to my surprise.

Its usually a hair over 3 hours gate to gate. They have done it in 2h20m before but that is rare. I am leaning towards the harness and leaving both the stroller and carseat in the car at the airport. just less to lug around. Its not like we have space like in a DVC room or going to the parks all day. We will be on a ship and probably not going far...first cruise so I assume not far.

I totally agree with this rationale but I found that my kids didn't fight the harness just ask they didn't fight the car seat (usually!). With everyone in their seats and buckled on the plane, that seemed to be enough peer pressure for them to also realize they needed to remain seated. When we purchased our CARES, it wasn't certified for use until age 3, I think? The web site says age 1 now. Anyways, we travel a lot so we had many opportunities to use our GoGoBaby wheels (is that what you mentioned?) and the cut up hands from trying to install the seat. It was such a relief when we were past that stage!
